Do You Let People Smoke in Your House?

While I don't mind the smell of cigars quite as much as I do the smell of cigarettes, I'd still never allow either to be smoked in my house. The smell seems to invade every fabric-covered surface, and if someone smokes in a home long enough, the wood surfaces and walls will even absorb the scent. Sometimes, though, you have to make exceptions for a particularly stubborn relative with a passion for cigars. What's your policy?

my roommate smokes. i make her go outside to do it and stay out there for at least ten minutes after she's done so she doesnt come in smelling like smoke. maybe a little drastic, but i dont like the smell and she agreed to that when she moved in.

I smoke, and I go outside. So, if I can do it, so can every one else.

My parents smoke, but only on the back patio. Honestly, if you didn't know that they smoked, you would never suspect it. We use different things to keep the house smelling nice.

I can't stand the smell of smoke now more than ever. I wouldn't want that in my house if I could help it.

NO. We rent and I'll be damned if we're going to have our deposit deducted more if there's smoke smell in our condo. :D Of course, we have a small yard where all my fiancee's friends smoke, but even then, they need to clean up their ciggie butts.

no one's ever had the gall to light up in my home. I think everyone knows the polite thing to do is go outside. Cigars wouldn't bother me, but cigs stink everything up!

No smoking in my house or car ever. If they must smoke then it is outside and I am usually standing a fair distance away so I don't get their nasty passive smoke. My ex's granddad smoked daily. It stank the house out and turned the walls and ceiling brown. It was disgusting. Whenever I visited them and he would light up I'd excuse myself and go outside (so I could breathe) and talk through to them via the open back door until the smoke cleared. I felt rude in a way but I considered my health as paramount to anything else. I'd then have to wash my clothes and self when I got home cause I reeked from just sitting on their lounge for a hour.

I live with my boyfriend who is a smoker. And even he smokes outside on the porch. I can only remember one time when he smoked in the house and that was during a hurricane... and even then, I think he stayed in the garage. I can't imagine going into someone's home and demanding to be allowed to smoke a cigar/cigarette. That's pretty inconsiderate, if not downright rude.

I rent and I made an agreement with my landlord there would be no smoking inside. So if people have a problem with it, I can always use my landlord for an excuse. :) But I do keep an ashtray and two chairs on the porch for my friends and family who do smoke.

My husband smokes the occasional cigar, but outside only. When we were house hunting we found a large house in a nice neighborhood but the smoker who lived there for 30 years make the place Reek! It was so bad that the agent told us we'd have to replace the carpet and drywall just to get rid of it so we skipped that one.

Lawchick said it right. I also have a balcony that people can smoke their cigs on.

No, we are a completely smoke free home.

Lawchick, hehehehe. I have a total moratorium on smoking inside, but you can smoke whatever you want on my back deck, be it cigarettes, cigars, or. . .whatever ;-)
