Do You Own a Furniture Set?

Rooms To Go at ShopStyle

When you move into an empty house, it's tempting to head to your nearest Rooms to Go and buy a set of furniture in one fell swoop. But, if you do so, you put your home in danger of looking uninspired and like the showroom it came from. Of course, you can combat the bachelor pad look by bringing in accessories that showcase your personality, painting the walls, and hanging original artwork. Unfortunately, not everyone understands that a furnished room isn't necessarily a finished room.

Ha, we just bought a living room set from Rooms to Go! It’s a matching sofa and love set with a coffee table and two end tables. I’m not a fan of matchy-matchy but this was a great deal, and the upholstery is so neutral that we’ll be able to play with it a lot. The only other set we have is our bedroom set, which was a hand-me-down from my husband’s grandparents. Well, and our kitchen table matches the chairs, but that set clashes with the rest of the kitchen so it hardly counts. Definitely not showroom style.

My furniture is from all over. Except for my dining room table with the 4 chairs, but it was actually a gift, I didn't buy it in the store. Then what I did was strip & stain a buffet & hutch to match the coloring (as close as possible) to the dining room set. :) I would like to get a bedroom set though :D

I have most of my furniture in the living room from the same place, and all the furniture in my bedroom from the same place (different than the living room). But I try to add personal touches with accessories!

When I moved, I had next to no furniture. I was trying to go for "instant-home-just-add-cats", so I found a 12 month same as cash deal at a furniture store. So, my table and chairs are a set, the couch chair and ottoman are a set, and I have a bedroom set. I have supplemented everything with my own style and want I did have, though -- so it's not too showroom-ish. I'm sure over time I'll pick up more pieces and get rid of others to create more of a mix. At the same time I have definite styles I want to stick to for each room. It works for me.

No...mine is a mix from a few different places. Some of my things are antiques that my parents have given me too.

I would like to buy a furniture set, but budget does not permit at this time. So I try to adopt furniture.

We have a number of pieces from Crate and Barrel that we love, and I don't feel bad about it at all. Not everyone loves the ecletic, pieced together look.

I have furniture that matches because it looks uniform, but the rest is within the same color scheme.

The only room where I have matching furniture is in the bedrooms. Only because i didn't buy them, my MIL has found these sets at auctions and have bought them for us. I honestly can't stand matching sets. My parents never owned matching sets, between not having money to spend on a set and the fact it is more fun to have a mix and match of furniture in your house.

Our furniture is from all different sources. The only exception is our dining room set. It's just a table and chairs (no sideboard, or hutch), but they were all purchased as a set at a furniture store.

I have never bought a furniture set from any rooms to go-type store. However, I do have some matching bedroom furniture from the 50s that aren't so matchy matchy that they look like they came off a showroom floor. The rest of my house is pieced together from different thrift stores, flea markets, hand-me-downs...

I have a mix of stuff although my grandmother was gracious enough to by me a couch, end tables, and a coffe table when I moved into my new apartment. The living room is kind of matchy, but everything else is this great mix.

Luckily for me when I moved in with my husband (then boyfriend), he had furniture. Then when our room mate moved out we had to get various things. Also lucky for me he has great taste and never decorated like a bachelor!
