Do You Own an Hourglass?

I don't exactly have a need for an hourglass in my life — a shower timer, yes. Commonly used in Italy during the 14th century, hourglasses were useful for keeping time during church sermons and for measuring time and distance on ships. But, for obvious reasons, they're not as common anymore. I'm tempted to buy this Black Hourglass ($26) on looks alone, though. Do you own one? Do you use it?

Maybe an hourglass would encourage me to get ready faster in the morning

I have a few that came with board games and they're used for that purpose only.

Haha, munkeyhed. It would be fun to have a pretty one for board games.

I'd like a bigger one for playing Boggle. More time to find words!

Yes, but it's small and just for decoration.

I have several. Love them! I have little egg timers, and big hourglasses, all vintage. I'm digging that black one though, I could picture it in a really fun gothic halloween vignette with tarot cards!

I would love one very chic , but I'm afraid my littles would get a hold of it and break it. That is something my kids would be lured to for sure.

I definitely don't own one but now I am thinking that this would be a neat way to jazz up my work desk.
