California's Legendary Flintstones House Is For Sale!

Sep 3 2015 - 1:57pm

Northern California could be the perfect place for an old-fashioned millionaire to plant their roots — make that an extremely old-fashioned millionaire, like, prehistoric. That's because the so-called "Flintstones House" in the town of Hillsborough, a half hour south of San Francisco, just hit the market for a cool $4.2 million. Curbed SF [1] confirmed the listing is with Alain Pinel Realtors.

The house has attracted curious onlookers for years, as it's within the sight line of Interstate 280, a popular route into and out of San Francisco. As the story goes, the home was built in 1976 [2] by covering large balloons with a concrete material called gunite. Originally white, the home was painted its now-distinctive orange in 2000.

Various structural problems have plagued the home for years, and it has had a varied list of tenants and renters. Now, it looks as though the storied history is set to continue with a brand-new, creative buyer.

The distinctive home is visible from Interstate 280.

The master bedroom, located in one of the towers, is accessible via a curved staircase from the main floor.
