How Much Condo Will $71,855 Buy You?

AnArchitecture recently compiled data on how much real estate 50,000€ ($71,855) would buy you in various cities around the world, from Trend, an Austrian business magazine. He created a diagram showing how much surface area you could buy in the best neighborhood in each of those cities, New York buying the least and Dubai the most. The price differential between the polar ends is amazing, especially since each of the cities listed has a growing economy, if not an established one. It costs a whopping $1,629 per-square-foot to live in New York, versus only $111 per square foot in Dubai.

To see a table showing the meters squared to square foot conversion,

I totally agree Julie. When a house is so expensive because of "location, location, location," you're buying more than just the property, you're buying into a a higher quality of life, ie. being able to walk to any shop, cafe, gallery, or park, and be able to hop on a bus or streetcar for anything else. . .I know people who live in the country probably would disagree about the interpretation of 'quality of life,' but I think you can already tell my stance by my username ;-)

Wow, $73K would basically buy my BATHROOM. I live in a teeny tiny 700 square foot condo in Washington, DC... our neighbor had his on the market (identical to ours) for $470K and it sold in a matter of hours because it was "such a good deal for the location." Meanwhile, my friend in Pittsburgh bought an entire 4 bedroom HOUSE for under $200K. But I love living in the city and not needing a car, so it is totally worth it in my opinion.

I wish I could compare other cities like Paris, London, Los Angeles... I knew Berlin is an affordable city.

Yeah, living in the Bay, I would love to know how SF stacks up against the others on the list. What's the betting that you get even less in SF than you do in New York? *sighs*

That's one 11th, almost exactly, of my 1,400 sq. ft. condo in SF. . .and that's the cheapest one we found, by far, at that!!!

Holy crap....the New york one is about the size of a queen size bad.Thankfully I live in a reasonably priced area of the country...just over $100K for a 1400 sq ft. townhouse. The average 2000sq ft house here is around $225K.

It IS amazing how much less real estate prices are in other parts of the world... $71,855 is about a fourth of what my condo/townhouse cost!
