How Would You . . .

This French Apothecary Shop Chest ($8,800) is the kind of cool storage unit I dream about. Dating from the 1880s and containing 50 drawers, I get excited just thinking about all of the baubles you could fill it with.

So, for this latest How Would You post, I'd like you to think outside the home-decorating box and find some creative ways to repurpose this chest. How would you use it in your home? In what room? For what purpose? Would you use it for filing? For craft projects? For jewelry? Add anything to it? Repaint or refinish? Leave a comment below and let me know how you'd fit this French apothecary shop chest in your home.

I could use this as a room divider in an open concept dining/living room area. Have a couch on one side facing the living room, and have the drawers on this unit facing the dining area with some small plants/vases on top to help separate the two spaces. I could the drawers to store 'special occasion' objects like tablecloths/runners, candles, fancy silverware, the 'good' dishes to use when company comes over, even some drawers for cozy throws to use in the living room on chilly nights! It would also be handy for storing old photo albums that are great to have handy when relatives come to visit and you'd like to remember the good old days...but you dont necessarily want the 70s style albums in open shelving in plain view! This would definitely save some digging into old, unlabled cardboard boxes... :)

Beautiful, I would leave it exactly as is. I would put it in our closet and probably divide it between us, half and half. I'd use my half for jewelry and lingerie and Id use his half for his hats, ties, belts, etc. This would be a dream come true if I could afford it!

I would clean it well and give it a fresh coat of paste wax. I could use this for crafts or jewelry, but probably a combo piece. A couple of buffet lamps, and it will be great!

I would use it for so many things. This is certainly a dream item.:) I'd use it for recipes, photographs, stationary, and some drawers would even be set aside for things like presents for family and friends. The possibilities are endless.

Needs refinishing, but I could use this for anything and everything in my house. Like Alton Brown says, organization will set you free!

I would love this! All of my jewelry supplies would find a happy home in there. I would put it in my spare bedroom that functions as my "studio." Man it is a mess in there!

i think it would be amazing if you lived in a loft or something like that and then you could store lots of different things such as: cds, papers, bills, documents, knickers, bras, make-up, cutlery, gadjets like chargers and stuff, jewlery, dvds, stationery, pills + first aid kit. it would be the focal point of a small space, where almost all the storage goes and on top you could put a mirror leaning against the wall, a small stereo or ipod player, a few books, some pictures and a vase with flowers. LOVED THIS!!!

I'd paint this a pastel color and use it in the kitchen as a work-surface. Its drawers could all hold different spices, specialty utensils, etc.

Mayara....Robot supplies... HAHAHA Some uses I can think of: Jewelry / craft supply organizer. Tool shop organizer. Neat for a store that sells jewelry supplies. Store seeds and gardening supplies. Hard to stay out of the organizing area as there are so many drawers begging for small items to be stored there... How about just a mass organizer... one row of art supplies, one row of gardening supplies, etc, all with little labels on the outside.

I love this - but it's almost as big as my house. I'd use it in the kitchen cause I love to cook and buy pastas, rices, spices, kitchen tools, dishes. It would be great in the bedroom for all my accessories. I could think up 100s of uses.

I would refinish it with a darker stain and replace the handles with something a little more feminine and modern. Then I would use it either in my dream celebrity style walk-in closet, or more practically (and more realistically) in the home office space.

It would be the most elegant craft and/or sewing storage. I'd put it in my kitchen and use half for kitchen stuff and half for all my kids' craft supplies.

Something like that would be great in my laundry room (which is bigger than necessary for just the washer and dryer, and has some not-so-well-used space right now) for storing supplies for making my homemade cleaning supplies (essential oils, baking soda, and some other things that would fit, with large bottles of vinegar sitting on top), maybe some soap- and/or candle-making supplies, rags, and so forth. Or maybe in the workshop/"laboratory" for holding robot-making supplies. Either way, I'd at least plan on doing some refinishing, as I love things that look old but cared for. (Plus it would give me another project.)
