Hydrangea Bouquet Tips

4 Hydrangea Arranging Tips From a Celebrity Florist

Turns out, we have something in common with Molly Sims. No, it's not her model height — it's her obsession with gorgeous flowers! One of our favorite floral subscription companies, TheBouqs, and Molly teamed up to create a signature bouquet for a great cause. For $50, you can have Molly's white hydrangea and green solidago bouquet, adorably dubbed Bundle of Joy, delivered to your doorstep. The best part? Five dollars will automatically be donated to Baby2Baby, a charity that gives thousands of families in need essential baby gear and clothing. Pretty cool, right?

TheBouqs creative director and florist-to-the-stars Eric Buterbaugh showed Molly how to make the perfect bouquet. Keep reading for his tips on how to arrange hydrangeas like a pro!

Eric's Tips:

  • Keep your arrangements out of direct sunlight.
  • Recut the stems diagonally every two days, and change the water.
  • Try arranging a single color in a blue-and-white Chinese vase — these vases look great with any color hydrangea!
  • If a flower head starts to die, then try running it under water — sometimes it will come back to life.

I wanted to say that a few years ago I spent Thanksgiving with my dear friend and her family. On the table we made a beautiful arrangement of dried hydrangea. Next to this bouquet we had taper candles. Unfortunately, the flowers caught on fire. With quick thinking the flowers were plunged into a nearby toilet, and disaster was averted. Please think ahead when setting a table!
