Love It or Hate It? Mirror Tiled Steps

You all seemed to love the tiled text staircase I showed you, which makes me think you may warm up to these mirror tiled steps. I think the juxtaposition of the old, wooden banister and the small mirrored tiles makes this look work. But on a modern staircase, it might look tacky and too disco. You must admit the light reflected by the tiles is beautiful, though. It's a good thing the tiles are petite, so you can't actually see your own reflection. What do you say? Yea or nay?

I think it's in the wrong setting. If it were a more modern staircase, it might look different. Here, you have a traditional staircase. Just looks kind of "OFF." :faint:

I tried to like it, but I guess I just don't. It was a nice idea, but no. Did I mention I hate brown?

I agree - it's funky, but I'm not sure it suits this style of staircase.

Love it, but not with that wood railing and stuff, maybe with a nice streamlined metal staircase for a cleaner look, or something white maybe, b ut not that wood, that makes it look tacky.

Love... if used in a form of the example (photo) shown. I adore the mix of country and glam details.

I'm with briggs, kimpossible, and urban chic. I think the idea is nifty, but not with these stairs. I'd love to see these particular stairs paired with a hand-painted tile or something a little more traditional. If the mirrored tile has to stay, I'd paint the stairs and railing - maybe a slick black, white, teal, or a few different colors, even. Or, directly against Casa's advice, maybe cover the entire front of each stair with one piece of mirror. I think it would be fun, and a little less date-able.

I love the concept... but this is in the wrong house.

I agree briggs. I like the idea, but I think it ruined those stairs. I think these particular stairs could have been enhanced in a way more suited to their style. Or they simply could have painted them black first, I'm not sure.

love the idea - not sure if it fits those stairs

Sorry, Rosera...I completely agree with's GORGEOUS as pictured here, but combine it with any MORE glass or anything silver, and it SCREAMS strip club...trrraaasshyyyy.

I think this look is great for an upscale night club, but it would also look great in a huge yacht, with a spiral staircase... the staircase would have to be made of glass and silver/chrome. Not in a normal home though... it's too awkward.

I actually really love it. But I think it would only work in a modern beach house or something like that.

I agree with GlowingMoon. Perhaps some Waterworks Glacier Bay tiles which are less glossy/reflective.

Yuck. I think it's too reflective. A matte silver tile would have looked better, in my opinion.

I cant say whether or not i like it cause im not sure. the room would have to be decorated so as not to make it look like a disco.

Love this, it would look to contrived on a modern stair case. But here it is unexpected without being over the top. It also adds reflective light in what looks like an otherwise dark stair well.
