Love It or Hate It? Terrycloth Le Corbusier Chairs

These Le Corbusier chairs, in the portfolio of interior designer Martha Angus, were originally leather, but were reupholstered in absorbent terrycloth. I think it's kind of a clever idea for a cabana, but I'm struggling with it. Was it sacrilegious to strip the chairs of their iconic leather?

WHY would you remove leather and put something as cheap as terrycloth?!?! Ugh!

littlemzfit, as much as I accept your point of view about Angus, I think she's a weak designer. Sorry. To me, those ruined Le Corbusier chairs speak volumes about her design capability (as far as her judgment and aesthetic). She committed a design crime (ruining those original, elegant chairs). Her chairs are horrible! Le Corbusier would roll over in his grave if he found out what she did. :)

Glowingmoon, I visited her website. You can read her bio, there. She definitely offers a fresh look. The theme I noticed mostly was how she leaves a room neutral and uses splashes of color, especiallly with fresh flowers. Being a lover of fresh flowers, I can appreciate. :-D

Absolutely sacrilegious. She ruined a classic. Also, she downgraded the surface material -- from leather to terry cloth! That's like taking an authentic Tiffany and Co. diamond ring (another timeless classic), removing the diamond, and putting in a cubic zirconia. She ruined it! Sorry, I think Martha Angus is a joke. She's practically laughable (I certainly don't take her seriously as a designer).

I understand what you were trying to do. But, the leather had a yin/yang feel...you know, warm/cold along with the metal. The terry is very casual and unstructured while the metal is more formal and structured. Perhaps, it's just the color of the terry. If it were whit, beige, or even yellow to match the lampshade, you probably could have pulled it off.

I don't mind the idea of terrycloth chairs, just totally NOT in that style. At all.
