Love It or Hate It? Wall Murals

My feelings about wall murals are much the same as my feelings about tattoos: even if I wanted one, I don't think I could pin down a motif. The options are truly endless, and as soon as you choose one, you're a jungle girl, you're a sailor, or you get weak in the knees over the City of Lights, etc. Wall decals are a much less permanent option. And yes, you could quickly paint over your wall mural if you change tunes, but considering the time and money invested, why would you risk it? What are your thoughts on wall murals?

I too believe it depends on the mural, content, and where it is placed. Many people think of them like tattoos...permanent...but they can be replaced, changed, or removed completely. I have used shower curtains that had a mural on them for regular windows to eliminate a nasty view.

I am a muralist myself - paint them all the time. I think that they can be really great or really cheesy in an adult room though - depending on the theme chosen. Most of the ones I paint are for children.

As a rule, I'm not a fan. However, there may be an occasional exception. ;)

I guess it would depend on the mural. Something not too crazy, though. The mural pictured is cool but, a little bit too crazy for my liking. I prefer minimal things, I suppose.

that one pictured is really cool!! my grandparents had one with white birch trees when i was a kid...and my inlaws have a beach themed one in their basement and i love Big's tree mural on Rob and Big i think they're cool if they fit the room...i don't have anywhere i'd put it in my house right now, but i wouldn't be totally opposed to it maybe

I just had a flashback to those wallpaper type photo mural things from the 80s. They always came in a tropical island theme, didn't they?

There is an amazing one in the Apartment Therapy coffee table book. It's two different paint-by-numbers of Paris street scenes, blown up to wall size. Absolutely incredible! Made me sad to be a renter. http://tinyurl.com/yet5ayb

I like wall murals, as long as they fit the personality of the room or the person who owns the room.
