Madeline Weinrib will debut the Climbers & Ramblers Series at the Alberto Levi Gallery in Milan from April 16 through May 19, in conjunction with Milan's Salone Internazionale del Mobile.
The carpet series Climbers & Ramblers was conceived over two years and first presented at Ralph Pucci International. The series consists of 14 carpets and runners, each hand knotted in Pakistan by accomplished artisans using handspun vegetable-dyed wool. The motifs present in the Climbers & Ramblers series adapt traditional Persian historical motifs in modern ways.
In an essay on the series, art critic Dominique Nahas wrote,
Weinrib's mastery has been honed through years of experimentation and innovation in the field. Such idiosyncratic virtuosity creates a riveting design sense that comes across as innate, effortless, and as inevitable as nature itself. In her work, Madeline Weinrib references calligraphy, sumi ink, and arabesques that recall (at times subliminally, sometimes more directly) the shapes of budding organic forms like leaves and flowers. The remarkable ease of her combinations attracts us to the subtle language of nature.
