Before and After: From Funky Frames to Cool Collage

When I was pregnant with my baby, I knew that I wanted to create an unusual, fun, and eye-catching art installation for his room. I latched onto the idea of creating a collage out of some frames that I'd been collecting at thrift stores.

I started with this mismatched jumble of frames, which I painted all black. Then I had pieces of 1/8-inch-thick birch plywood cut to fit each frame. With help from a design-savvy artist friend, I was then able to create the outline for my project.

The final result was this wall-size decoupaged horse! Thanks to a ton of help from friends and family at my baby shower, we were able to fill in the outline in only a few hours (and many bottles of Mod Podge later). I also used Mod Podge to create a lacquer for the entire project, and the absolute most difficult part of the entire project was hanging it.

Intrigued? Check back tomorrow when I take you through all of the steps.
