Midday Muse: Beautiful Branches

FreshPink recently took a trip to Calistoga, California, where she spotted these gorgeous manzanita trees on a hike. If you haven't encountered a manzanita tree yet in real life, I recommend it. The distinctive red bark is silky smooth to the touch, and with its silver-grey leaves, it's really striking. It's one of those trees you just have to touch.

You can find them in California and Im pretty sure New Mexico too. Native Americans use to eat the berries. They also would take berries and the wood to make drinks out of. You can also use the leaves as a toothbrush

I love manzanita trees. My fondest memory of them are from 6th grade camp at Foothill Horizons in the foothills outside of Sonora, CA. :)

they are sometimes called refridgerator trees b/c they are always cool to the touch even on hot days. When i used to go hiking we'd lean up against them to cool down, good times.
