Midday Muse: Bird Quilt

Dacia Ray finally finished her bird quilt. She writes, "I started this in Fall of 2004 . . . so in three years (plus a few months, but who’s counting?) I finished a hand-embroidered, hand-quilted, hand-bound quilt. Wouldn’t it be interesting to know how many hours it takes to make a quilt exactly? If I had to guess, I’d say this one took about 260 hours."

Dacia adapted the pattern from Martha Stewart to include thin pieces between the blocks, which broke up the embroidery and expanded the size of the quilt. What a beautiful final result!

i asked my journal readers two years ago if i should learn to knit or learn to quilt, and they voted knit. well, i learnt the basics but didnt REALLY get into it, so this year i'm going to make a quilt (inspired once again by this post!). i've just got to figure out what to embroider on it. i was thinking the franciscan starburst china pattern with contrasting strips of color between the blocks.

very cute! I've been working on a quilt for a long time now, although, not working too hard on it lately - mostly just staring at the box where everything is folded!:)
