Midday Muse: Matchy Matchy

I hate to be a downer, but I just have to say that there is nothing interesting about this matchy-matchy style of décor to me. I do love toile, florals, and gingham but seeing so much of them all in one space makes me sad. The lithograph prints hanging on the wall look like they could be beautiful, antique treasures, and the armchairs have an elegant, classic shape, but these great qualities are lost in the busyness of the patterns. To me, there's nothing creative or inspiring about using one fabric everywhere. Setting one of the gingham chairs in all-white room would have a significantly more positive visual impact. But, that's just me, and to each his own. If a bedroom such as this makes one woman comfortable in her home then I can't argue with that.

All you need is a matching pair of toile pj's and you are good to go...and be completely hidden from anyone looking for you.

How can you feel calm in such a busy room? It makes my brain go crazy! My brother cannot even sleep in a bed that has a pattered cover.

Def. lose the wallpaper. I probably wouldn't paint the walls white though. I would do them a light yellow or maybe even a green or blue. Something with color. Then add a few accents around the room that coordinate with the wall color.

Just taking off the wall paper in this room or painting over it (which was done to several of my rooms successfully)would help. The walls should be white or even a black. The chairs might be ok as is or in a rose color or something in that family.

I like your thinking, SillyGirl.

I would swap out the busy wall paper for an all white (maybe even textured) wall paper. Then I would add a pop of color by swapping the window shade for a bright orange, red, blue etc.

My eyes hurt! Too much usage of two busy patterns! I normally LOVE black and white decorating, but this here..nuhuh!

I would go crazy if I walked in a room decorated like that.
