Midday Muse: Painted Ceilings

Think outside of the blanc. Put down your Benjamin Moore Decorator's White, and opt for color on your ceiling instead. You may think you're playing it safe by leaving yours white, but you're actually just ignoring the potential there.By painting your ceiling a pale hue of a cool color, such as green or blue, you will visually lift the ceiling, since those colors recede, instantly making a small room feel larger. Conversely, painting a dark hue of a warm color will visually lower the ceiling, since those colors procede, making a large room feel smaller or any room just feel more intimate. The ceiling of this vast room was painted an oceanic blue, extending and brightening it, giving it almost an aquarium quality. Are your ceilings painted? Have you considered painting them? How about wallpapering them?

Think I'll end up painting my ceilings when I stop renting but I won't really know until I'm.. wherever I end up.

When my brother and I were in high school my parents repainted both of our rooms, mine was Moulin Rouge themed and my brother's was way cool and modern. Anyway both of our ceilings were painted. Mine was painted to look almost like a skylight where it was blue in the middle with stars, the rest of the ceiling was pink or red (can't remember) My brother's room: two of the walls were blue and one wall and the ceiling were green.

I would definitely paint my ceilings. As you said Casa, there is so much potential to bring additional life to the room!!!

I like that room, minus the giant, gold mirror! The painted ceiling is definitely a nice touch.

my bedroom does not get much natural light, so i made it the "dark" room and painted the ceiling black. i have high ceilings so i can get away with this color! the walls are a very light tiffany blue with candy apply red trim on the mouldings. it looks goes well with modern decor, woodblock prints, and surrealism. i have a black chandelier in my bedroom, too, and i think it looks really cool with the ceiling black, too. it was a bold move, but the results were great.

In my parents home the ceilings are not painted...mostly for the fact they are that popcorn finish or whatever, so it would be difficult to get them back to white before selling (if they sell). In my apartment, both the walls and ceilings are a plaster/sheetrock popcorn(?) finish and i have to paint it back before i move i am lazy and didn't do it. however, i may very well when i buy a boyf is no good with decorating and colors so i am sure i can talk him into it lol

I can't stand white ceilings! It makes me feel like the room is unfinished. The only room that I've really accepted it in so far is my living room, which is a medium gray with white crown molding. In that room it looks ok. I sort of like the look of taking the ceiling color down onto the wall a little, or taking the wall color up onto the ceiling for a few inches.
