Midday Muse: Treasury of Teacups

I spotted this collection of tea cups in a store window recently (excuse the gate), and was inspired to start gathering mismatched antique teacups to display in my own home. Even a chipped and color-faded antique demitasse set looks magnificent when displayed amongst friends of similar form. The good thing is that these teacups are not usually too expensive, and you can find them at second-hand shops, antique shops, and of course eBay. The key to it, I think, is designating a shelf or glass cabinet for them to live out their old age, so the collection looks intentional and not like you pulled the short stick in an inheritance raffle.

my grandma did this. When she died, all of us girls got one cup and saucer from her collection. This has inspired me to collect my own mismatched set!

For a bridal shower, I hosted a tea and mixed my grandmother's set with a complementary set I bought at an antique store (one of those stores that rents out booths- I got mine for 75% off!), and a different/special setting for the bride to make her seat at the table stand out. She got to take her setting home with her to remember the day. The table-scape looked so cute with the different/yet complimentary settings, and now I have two sets of pretty china!

Wow, that's a lot of tea cups!!! Pretty. I got a gorgeous china set for my wedding...I can't wait til I actually get a chance to use it! I also inherited a deceased family friend's set of china too and it's so pretty/vintage-looking. I think I might have to display some of it after looking at this...

I never thought of this kind of display, but I do love tea cups and old china.

Yes, my mom has some pretty expensive oens too. But I don't think she will ever sell them because they are heirlooms...one day I get them :)

My mother has a hbit of this, as well as with tea kettles. It's insane, although she has some amazing finds now worth $$$.
