Nesting Kitchen Table and Benches

Cool Idea: A Smart Little Nook

When a Casa Community member asked me for some advice on a banquette versus an island, I started to check out some various versions of eat-in kitchen ideas. During my Internet quest, I stumbled across this smart design by interior designer Janine Carendi. A New York lady with extraordinary taste, she has a keen eye for craveworthy items, but it might be her smarts behind this multifunctional piece that has me plotting out the space in my very own kitchen.

To see how it works,

.

With one bench slightly lower than the other, the two nest together and right underneath the table when all pushed against the wall. The green board on the wall brings a cohesive look to the nook and creates a perfect place for notes, invitations, and family photos. Another bonus? The blackboard wall just to the right of the table. I'm loving the eat-in kitchen turned office. You?

Hmmm...There are things I like about it and things I don't. I, for one, am not a fan of the board on the wall because I like to sit with my back up against something whenever possible and I wouldn't like the feeling of leaning up against photos, papers, etc. And I like the way the table and benches fit together, but I'd have to know how heavy they are to really know if it's practical to be pushing them in and out daily. I like the chalkboard wall; I think they're a little over done, but I still like them.
