Open House: How Do You Define Masculine Style?

Not all dudes decorate with high school sports trophies and rock posters. In fact, there are some absolutely design-savvy guys in my circle of friends.

How do you define masculine interior design? Does it involve darker colors? Earth tones? Leather? Are antlers involved? Furthermore, have you been influenced or impressed by any of your male friends' design savvy? Tell me by commenting below!

My boyfriend LOVES interior design! We always find ourselves wandering through Winners or Home Sense, and he's usually the one who wants to go! He's actually really good with the color-mixing, and enjoys asking my opinion on what he thinks looks good. He's great at taking my perspective into consideration too. Early in our relationship, we re-did his bland, white bedroom which, might I add, didn't even have a bed! We got a really nice black wood Ikea bed after we threw some crimson red paint on the walls. We also picked out a beautiful shadowed palm tree canvas on a sunset background painting that we got on sale because of a few scratches, something that I fixed easily. Gosh, if I had before and after pictures....

Could you provide me some information on the leather chair above and where I can purchase it?

I love the style depicted in the picture! Dark colours and earthy tones are sexy .. is that weird to say?

all of the above. I think the key to doing masculine style (for MOST men) is to keep the colors simple but to use lots of texture. I do like to throw in a pop of color though. The furnishings above would look great with deep wine red accents.

My boyfriend's style is very tech centric. Black and white with simple geometric patterns and subdued hues of blue-gray (the color was for my benefit). His accessories are all media inspired: piles of dvds, magazines, and games with a light wood ikea tv stand for the giant flatscreen and video game systems. He did buy some vintage inspired battlestar galactica "propaganda" posters that we want to frame and put in the media room eventually.

**I meant to say HIS mom, not MY mom. His mom is the reason why we own a brightly-colored, toll painted washboard that says "Laundry service: 25 cents. Open 24 Hours." mmmkay...

My husband's style is rugged cowboy meets whatever kitchy crap my mom buys me. Not beautiful!!! I'm gradually integrating my style into OUR house 8-)

My boyfriend's idea of design includes the use of vivid primary colors and still thinks IKEA stuff is his style. I on the other hand love dark colors and earth tones... I'd love to get my hands on some smart mascualine design...

OMG my beau is a designer by day, and designer by night. He always likes to put colours together on the walls that may go well for his magazine cover but look DREADFUL day in day out. And he likes really kitsy furniture, we have completely different tastes.
