Photo of Kate and Andy Spade in Their Bedroom — Do You Eat and Drink in Bed?

Do You Eat and Drink in Bed?

Elka and I were clicking through The Selby's photos of Andy and Kate Spade's New York City home — which is amazingly sophisticated in a cozy, artsy way — and she commented on this photograph, "I can't believe Kate Spade lets her husband drink and smoke in bed while wearing shoes." My response was: "That is something I would never notice."

First of all, I'm a single lady, so those sort of cohabitation issues aren't a thing I pick up on. Secondly, I'm a huge proponent of breakfast (or cocktails!) in bed. In fact, just this weekend, my roommate whipped up some bacon, eggs, and cheese pastries and delivered them directly to my bedside. And now that the weather is chilly, I've already begun having my morning coffee in bed, easing myself into the day. Cigs are a no-no in my book, but the shoes don't bother me much either . . . the sheets can be washed! Then again, I don't own a crisp white duvet.

What are your thoughts on eating and drinking in bed?

I wear shoes around some parts of my house. Like I'll wear them maybe in the kitchen and dining room, but I never wear shoes in my bedroom. Ever. I will, however, eat in bed. I am totally unopposed to that! Those are really great pictures, btw. The Spades are just incredibly good looking people. I'd never wreck the home, because I just adore Kate, but there's something to be said about a handsome man who knows his fashion...

I eat more in my bed than I do at my table. I enjoy watching TV in my bedroom. Shoes in the bed , yeah, its weird. I barely like someone sitting shoes on the bed. I never wear shoes indoors unless I am in someone else's house.

No one smokes in my house, and there certainly isn't anyone putting their shoes on the bed or any other furniture, either. But eating.. yeah why not. I do it too on rare occasions.

I have a much bigger issue with him smoking in the house considering they have a child. It's pretty well documented that children exposed to second hand smoke have more health issues (allergies, asthma, etc.) Also smoking is bed is a huge cause of fires.
