Come Feb. 1, there'll be a new girl town — town being the online-only world of shelter publications and girl being High Gloss Magazine. Founded by Paloma Contreras of the very popular style blog La Dolce Vita, the magazine joins the ranks of other favorites like Lonny, Rue, Sweet Paul, and more in the digital space. Culling from relationships she'd built online and in the blogging world, Contreras created a team of incredibly talented and stylish women to join her in her High Gloss efforts, including editor Erin Gates of Elements of Style, editor and stylist Shannon Wollack of Life.Style., editor and director of advertising Kyle Knight of Knight Moves, editor and stationer Lauren Rauter of Rock Paper Scissors, and art director Ashley Steen of Orchard 11.High Gloss has been kind enough to share exclusive images of the upcoming premiere issue with us as a sneak peek. From the looks of it, it will be sophisticated, polished, and full of inspiration for design fanatics like me. I'm seriously swooning over that perfectly accessorized eclectic modern bedroom and anxious to see more of the home it belongs to!
Contreras also happily obliged to answer some questions about the magazine. Check out my interview below!
CasaSugar: What prompted you to launch High Gloss?
Paloma Contreras: I had wanted to take my blog and my career to the next level for some time. I’ve been blogging for nearly four years and in that time, I’ve been amazed by how supportive the entire community is. The thing that struck me the most about the social media world were the incredible connections that one could make through that platform. I knew that I wanted to create an extension of my blog that would take things into a different spectrum and a digital magazine seemed like just the thing. Finally, late last spring, I decided to go for it and started putting the wheels into motion. By mid-summer, I had brought on the amazing members of my team who are all incredibly talented and stylish. These women astound me with their talent on a daily basis. We share a common vision, yet we each bring unique perspectives to the table. We decided that there was definitely room for another digital magazine on the scene and decided to focus on a few subjects that some of the others don’t cover quite as much.
CS: There are more and more online shelter magazines debuting today. What sets High Gloss apart?
PC: I read the other magazines and we are all very supportive of one another. I have to admit that we were a bit nervous in the beginning since we weren’t the first ones to do this. However, over time it’s become evident that each of the digital magazines has its own niche and defined style. I am very confident that what the readers see in High Gloss will be unique from the other magazines. High Gloss was born as a guide for living a stylish life and that encompasses several areas: interior design, fashion, travel, and entertaining, so we will feature content in all of these areas rather than focusing primarily on interiors.

CS: What can we expect to see in the first issue? Where have you traveled to shoot the issue?
PC: We have lots of exciting things in store! We shot features in Los Angeles, Houston, Napa Valley, Boston, Raleigh, and San Francisco for this issue. We’re featuring designers like Tia Zoldan, blogging personalities like Jamie Meares and Nicole Gibbons, tastemakers like Lee Kleinhelter, Alexis Swanson Traina, and Louise Roe, along with a pretty major celebrity, but you’ll have to tune in on February 1st to see who it is.
CS: How many issues will you have each year?
PC: We are a bi-monthly magazine, so we will produce six issues each year.
CS: How would you describe the High Gloss aesthetic? Who are some of your favorite interior designers and décor retailers?
PC: The High Gloss aesthetic is fresh and modern with a glamorous twist. We like to mix it up: feminine with masculine, high with low, bold mixed with neutral. We aren’t afraid of color and we love to accessorize whether in our homes or in our wardrobes.
There are so many designers we love that it’s impossible to name them all. For interiors, we love Nate Berkus, Kristen Buckingham, Massucco Warner Miller, Lázaro Rosa Violán, Kelly Wearstler, Jonathan Adler, Mary McDonald, Windsor Smith, Ruthie Sommers, Thom Filicia, Todd Romano, Sixx Design . . . the list goes on!
When it comes to fashion, we love to mix it up! Some of our favorites include Tibi, Diane von Furstenburg, Ralph Lauren, Carolina Herrera, Oscar de La Renta, Missoni, J. Crew, Madewell, Tory Burch, Rachel Roy, and 3.1 Phillip Lim.
