Steal of the Day: Briar Hill Antiqued Bed

Such throwback romanticism may not be everyone's bag, but I'm really loving this Briar Hill antiqued bed ($399, marked down from $999). The beautiful antiqued-brown finish is contrasted by delicate handpainted floral accents. The bed features a gently scalloped design on headboards and footboards and is constructed of sturdy Asian hardwood and veneers. The king bed set includes headboard, footboard, and rails.

Like the shape of the bed, but not the painted roses.

It reminds me of the furniture my Great Gramma has. And that's a good thing! :)

Ugh, it looks "fake" antiqued.

I think this is quite lovely. Perhaps hand painted furniture is an acquired taste? The history of this style actually dates back to China and Marco Polo is thought to have introduced this style to Italy in 1283 AD. It's a style that has had many comebacks, most especially in France under Louis XIV and also Italy. A friend of mine inherited some lovely estate pieces for her home and that was the starting point of my learning more about them. My own personal style leans toward modern but I do think this looks like a great piece from what I can see of the photos and that price is hard to beat.

It okay, but I live with my fiance, and I like things to look more gender neutral.
