Would You Live in a Hobbit House?

Apparently, Hobbit houses aren't big sellers. Developer Ron Meyers's housing development, "The Shire," which is located in Bend, Oregon, has only sold one home since the project began nearly two years ago. And granted, I am a Lord of the Rings dork, but even if I weren't I'd still find these houses pretty cute. Would you want to live in such a fanciful home?

I googled The Shire. Apparently it's in foreclosure. :( Also, it's a whole subdivision of the city that's built this way with townhouses and community space! And the hobbit hole in the pic above is storage for tools in the backyard. (I wish it were the front of the house!)

If money weren't a problem and I planned to live there for ages, I'd go for it. It's more than just the theme. It's the cozy, romantic aesthetic on the inside that i would fall in love with.

Bend sucks, sorry. If the houses were more affordable and NOT in Bend, they'd probably be selling really well.

Being from the Pacific Northwest, I can say - Bend, OR is not the place I would willingly move to! And Renees3 has a great point - while these prices might be the norm for Seattle, it is rather high for the Bend area.

PS the homes range from 650K-900K, which is pretty pricey for Oregon. If i had the money and wanted to live in Bend I totally would buy it though!

There's a house in Winnetka (IL) that we see on the way to our bridge game once a month. We call it the shire house because it has exactly that aesthetic...and it has to be at least 30 years old. It's adorable, though, and if I had all the money in the world, I'd go try to buy it.

Absolutely! Not only would it be perfect for my short stature, but they are also very cute and ... practical? Ok I'm not sure how practical they are, but I respect this guy all the same.

Well, how much were they asking? I'm only 5' tall, so I"m practically a Hobbit myself.

I think it's really neat an whimsical! I wonder if they are pretty pricey though... maybe that's why they aren't selling very fast.
