Would You Want a Marble Fireplace?

This photo, from interior-designer-turned-bakery-owner Rosie Daykin's Vancouver home, features modern, comfortable rooms, including this spacious living room. I love the marble fireplace, and wonder if you do, too, or if you find it too austere.

Yes! I have been obsessed with marble lately.

I have a marble fireplace. But I would want brick in the future.

I agree with the above posters. It really depends on the room as well as your design asthetic. For instance, someone who like a more "comfortable country" or "beachy" theme mostly likely wouldn't fit.. but something that was "glamorous", "girly" or "contemporary" would work well. Personally I favor brick, I think it's a little warmer for the space.

Agreed wity kimpossible. It all depends on the style of the room. But marble sounds elegant while brick and fieldstone sounds comfy and cozy, so if pressed I'd go with the latter.

It would depend on the home and which material looked best with the rest of the interior. My inlaws have a floor to ceiling marble fireplace that they designed themselves that is stunning... but it wouldn't look good in just any home.
