CS: Your background is in textiles. How did you expand to interior design?
>AL: I went to fashion school straight out of high school and was studying textile design. Honestly, even though I loved it . . . I was bored. I was always drawn to interior design and loved to rearrange furniture and play with fabrics and color but I was unaware you could make a living doing that. I ended up at the UCLA program for interior design and got a job at a home store doing displays. A few people started asking me to help them decorate their homes and then the love affair really began. I went to work for a really talented interior designer who taught me so much about the business. After a few years with her she encouraged me to go on my own and the rest is history.
