It's official: Laurie Hernandez [2] has joined the cast of Dancing With the Stars!
The 16-year-old Puerto Rican-American gymnast, who recently took home both a gold and a silver medal [3] in the sport at the Rio Olympics, announced her new TV gig [4] on Instagram, writing: ". . . I'm going to be on season 23 of #DWTS with my partner Val! I'm so excited to show you my moves on September 12! @dancingabc Now we need help with a team name! Any thoughts?"
While it will be tough to outshine her powerful Olympic team name [5] — Final Five — we're sure Laurie and her partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy will think of something just as memorable for their quest to win the coveted mirror ball trophy.
