The beloved Cuban Queen of Salsa, who would have turned 91 on Oct. 21, had a difficult rise to superstardom considering salsa music was once reserved for white men to perform. But, as her legacy proves, she persevered, and the 80-episode series chronicles that gripping journey.

Last year, ahead of the show's network TV premiere, the Puerto Rican actress who plays Celia — Jeimy Osorio — opened up to the Sun Sentinal about the late icon's influence, saying, "She is an example of how to break through barriers of racism, how to own self-confidence."
