This Vaccine Campaign Will Make You Want to Run to Your Abuela (and Maybe Cry, Too)

We can see abuelas again! At least, vaccinated abuelas. If you have been following the latest news on COVID-19 [1] , you'll probably know that the new CDC guidelines [2] say fully vaccinated people can now visit other fully vaccinated people indoors without wearing masks or physically distancing. Also, those who have had the two rounds of vaccines can visit unvaccinated people from a single household who are at low risk without wearing masks or physically distancing.

But despite the new freedoms associated with vaccination, a national survey by the Ad Council [3] reveals that a significant number of Latinx living in the US are still hesitant to get vaccinated. According to the survey, as of February, nearly half of Latinx in the US — 47 percent — were undecided about getting the vaccine despite the disproportionate effects COVID-19 has had on the Latinx community [4]. To spread the word about the safety and availability of the vaccine among the Latinx community, the Ad Council in partnership with ad agency Pereira O'Dell has just released this emotional campaign (seriously, grab at least one tissue before pressing play), where you can see a grandma getting ready to receive her grandkids at home for the first time since the pandemic started a year ago.

"COVID-19 has changed the ways we connect, celebrate and live, and we know how difficult it has been not to be able to embrace our loved ones. Today we're proud to launch this incredibly moving PSA, created in partnership with Pereira O'Dell and COVID Collaborative, reminding us that there's light at the end of the tunnel," the AD Council announced on Instagram.

Get ready to smile, shed a tear or two, and share it with your family!
