5 Things to Be Grateful For When You're in a Relationship

5 Things to Be Grateful For When You're in a Relationship

Yesterday I gave you five things to be thankful for if you're single this Thanksgiving, but there are plenty of things to be thankful for if you're in a relationship too. If you need a reminder, check out my list below:

  • You always have a “wingman” at family gatherings.
  • You have someone to share your second piece of pecan pie with.
  • You have someone to recap the night with.
  • You have two families to celebrate the holiday with.
  • You don't have to feel like the third wheel when you're with your coupled-up relatives.

What about being in a relationship are you thankful for this year?

My ex- boyfriend and I were both both divorce kids and the family holidays SUCKED. 4 dinners, zero flexibility from the moms about having to leave 15 minutes early to go to the next one, endless guilt about your family being "less important" than his family, trying to eat enough so that the cook isn't mad at you but trying not to get full and getting to bed way later than your body wants you to because you had to accommodate so many people, half of which you may not even like/ don't like you. *Thanksgiving may be far more joyous for other people.

"I thought I was doing good, even great, when I was single, but I proved myself wrong and I would not trade this relationship for anything." I agree. In this relationship, I've been the happiest I've ever been, doing more than I've ever done, and realizing more about the world than I ever have. This relationship is helping me and my boyfriend both GROW as people, and that's what I'm so thankful for.

to the people talking about cleaning...do your partners ever pick up a toilet brush or any cleaning equipment? or do a general pick up around the house? It's just a question.

I am pretty much content with this list, and unlike some others, I am so much happier, sleep so much better and spend way less money ever since I started dating my BF. We are super thrifty and play off each other in saving money and thinking of fun things to do that don't cost a lot, which is awesome because we can make a night of staying in more fun than anything I did when I was single, spending lots eating out and buying stuff I didn't really need. I thought I was doing good, even great, when I was single, but I proved myself wrong and I would not trade this relationship for anything. It's so amazing to have a built in support system, someone you know can always find a way to make you smile even when things are not so great, and best of all, someone to just love you so unconditionally...

I just found out--TODAY--that I am expected to spend Thanksgiving with my husband's family. I HATE my husband's family, and anyone would--his mother and sister did their part to try to ruin our wedding. I am almost in tears about this. I will be sitting home alone on Thanksgiving--17 hours away from my own family while my husband goes over to his family's shindig.

Jeez I thought this post was supposed to be about things to be grateful for about being in a relationship SO I will write some.. -You always have someone to talk to after a long day of work -You have someone to send emails with or text with while AT work to make the day go just a little bit faster -You always have someone to keep you warm at night -Nothing is better than wearing his big tshirt or sweatshirt while watching TV together on the couch -You have someone to take walks with and share your hopes and dreams with -You have someone to talk about the future with -You always have someone who is on YOUR side So many more, but just to name a few...yes when you are in a relationship you might think about being single every once in a while, but nothing is better than love even if there are moments where you bicker, where you hold a grudge, where you are upset....in the end it is all worth it =)

Chrstne, you are SO right! I feel like I'm cleaning all the time and it NEVER lasts longer than 5 minutes. He can make everything look messy without me even noticing! Actually, all of your cons were very true!

i am SO not grateful for having 2 families to celebrate holidays with! just this past week my boyfriend and i got into a HUGE fight about where we would spend thanksgiving. ugggh so frustrating! i think it's one of the worst things about being in a relationship!

Oh, and just to add something else in for the single ladies. I know it can get lonely being single, but it's infinitely more lonely to be in a relationship where your partner has the "don't care" attitude, and always seems to be too busy for you. It's lonely when there is no romance, and you live together like room mates. THAT is being lonely. It doesn't make being single suck less for you if you think it sucks, but there are always worse situations. I'd take being single over that any day.

There are pros and cons of being single and being in a relationship. However, I don't think Dear has accurately pinpointed all of them. I mean, why write things to be grateful for, when you can write the good and bad about both of the categories? Here's something to be grateful for when you are single: -Not having someone take up the whole bed. (Love my boyfriend, and love sleeping with him, but he manages to push me to the edge of a king sized bed with him sprawling out!) -Not having to listen to snoring at 2AM and want to fall back asleep -No one to fight with. No one who will hold a grudge against you if they are particularly pissy. -Spending less money, because you only have to pay for one person's food, etc. -Taking as long as you want in the shower, and the hot water will never be used up. -No one to stink up the bathroom. -Knowing that all of your hard cleaning will pay off in everything being clean for a while...instead of having someone make everything dirty 5 minutes after you are finished. Seriously, I slept better, spent less, cleaned less when I was single. Single girls really have it well. The grass is always greener.

First you wrote: "5 Things to Be Grateful For When You're Single: - You don't have to share leftovers (especially that last piece of pumpkin pie!) with a significant other. - You don't have to worry about meeting anyone's family." Then you write exactly the opposite for "5 Things to Be Grateful For When You're in a Relationship". Is it possible that you couldn't think of any good reason for being single? ;)

While the list was a reminder of what you can be thankful for, those are not the main things I am thankful for. Most of all, I am thankful for having someone validate me, having a best friend and a boyfriend all in one, having someone to cook dinner for and to come home to. Having someone to do laundry for, having someone to clean up after, having someone to pamper, someone to cuddle, someone to hug and kiss. Someone to play with, someone who is always the most fun to be drunk with, someone to have deep conversations at any time of the day with. Someone who makes car rides more interesting, the sun brighter, every laugh a little louder, and every smile much more sincere. I am grateful for HIM. Being single just didn't give me the great joy and calm I have in my life because I have him. I am thankful to have my wingman, someone to recap the night with, someone to share pies and holidays with but nothing compares to just being thankful to have an amazing boyfriend, and being thankful for all the little quirks of his you get to experience throughout a day.

i like always having someone to do fun stuff with we make lists of all the stuff we want to do and actually do them it's nice to know he's always around to hang with, because we have so much fun together

The only ones from that list that applies to me are #2 and #3. The rest definitely don't.

Anyone else have any good enough reasons?

I agree with lawchick...the 2 families thing is stressful. My boyfriend's family is really big and nosey, none of them get along so someone's always yelling or not speaking, and he's not very close to them aside from his mom and grandma. So neither one of us really likes going to their house for holidays! But we do it.
