Alaska's Sarah Palin Tapped by McCain — Good VP Pick?

Alaska's Sarah Palin Tapped by McCain — Good VP Pick?

Well ladies and gentleman, the US now has its second-ever female VP candidate — Sarah Palin. Here are some crucial facts you should know about the number two on the GOP ticket. She's the 44-year-old governor of Alaska, who up until two years ago served as mayor of Wasilla, an Alaskan city of 5,400 people.

Palin is pro-life, and a lifetime member of the NRA. She enjoys sky-high approval ratings and came onto the national scene as a reformer. Palin has five children, including a newborn who has Down syndrome, and a son ready to deploy to Iraq.

Do you think Sarah Palin will give John McCain, who turned 72 today, the White House as his belated birthday present?

The proof is in the pudding. Good bye Sarah.

Palin's choice is great if your ideal woman model is from the '50's. If you want the least educated, least intellectual, least intelligent, and least sophisticated pol to run the show.

McCain / Palin is a fantastic combination. How hilarious when people say Palin has no experience.... uh barack obama? first-time senator who consistently voted "present"? Barack Obama is the puppet of the Democratic Party. McCain beats him on so many levels. Let's hope people really research the issues. McCain / Palin will be a great administration in '08.

Obama Salama. I have never heard that before. But now that I have, I could not possibly vote for him.

You are aware that she was video taped saying she doesn't know what a VP does while be interviewed for the job of VP? That she is involved in an on going federal investigation? That she believes in no abortion under any circumstance, incest or rape, never. I mean really, she is the best choice for McCain? She hasn't even been vetted by the McCain camp. McCain is 72 years old, is she someone you want to be president if anything happens to him? If he is elected. Think about it before November people.

i dont generally read citizen and im not american so i dont really care enough to read into it that much, and i obviously know what he said was wrong like there are no black people there etc... but he makes other points in his blogs that make sense. mainly her lack of experience. im not sure if your comment was directed at me or not since i dont know what "The daily kos" is ... but i did just read that her daughter is still pregnant. just stating what i heard..

And you also realize that everything Diddy said about Alaska is wrong, right?

Wow, check out citizens post about diddy. And you do realize that her daughter is several months pregnant now? The daily kos isn't a news source. Why don't you check out some real ones.

shes a liar... her supposed child with downssyndrome is really her grandchild. shes ashamed of her 16 year old having a baby and so she made up a whole cover story. If anyone watched p.diddy's video on perez, it certainly could have been worded better but he made some good points. shes a HORRID choice.

Palin was just booed by a bunch of Republicans in Penn. when she brought up HRC and her 18 million cracks. I know they want to pander to the female vote but maybe she should change that part of her speech?

The Palin pick might increase support for Obama among Hillary supporters. It reminds democratic women of what's at stake in this election. I had a longer post with links from women's groups that was flagged. But what most had in common was the belief that Palin did not speak for democratic women.

The choice of Palin might increase support of Obama among Hillary supporters. The choice of Palin as his VP reminds democratic women of what's at stake in this election. "The fact that Palin is a mother of five who has a 4-month-old baby, a woman who is juggling work and family responsibilities, will speak to many women. But will Palin speak FOR women? Based on her record and her stated positions, the answer is clearly No. In a gubernatorial debate, Palin stated emphatically that her opposition to abortion was so great, so total, that even if her teenage daughter was impregnated by a rapist, she would “choose life” — meaning apparently that she would not permit her daughter to have an abortion. Palin also had to withdraw her appointment of a public safety commissioner who had been reprimanded for sexual harassment, although Palin had been warned about his background through letters by the sexual harassment complainant." NARAL: "John McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate proves just how rigid and extreme his administration would be when it comes to a woman’s right to choose," Keenan said. "For 25 years, McCain has opposed a woman’s right to choose, and we know that he will continue to push anti-choice policies in the White House. McCain’s pick of anti-choice Sarah Palin is further evidence that his White House will be just another four years of Bush-style policies. Any remaining doubts about McCain’s extreme anti-choice position should be put to rest when voters learn about the combined anti-choice records of Sarah Palin and John McCain."

More concisely. I don't know if McCain really expects pick up much of Hillary's supporters, but he wants to lower Obama's own support among that group.

tweet, yeah. I think McCain must know that Palen's no Hillary. But by picking Palen, he keeps picking at the scab between Obama/Hillary camps and I think the desired effect to is keep the animosity alive and depress Obama's support and likely turnout among former Hillary supporters. The Dems did a lot to unite this past week, but McCain's been pushing the wedge with his Hillary ads. He had an ad up this past week that went like, "She got 18 million votes, but Barack Obama didn't choose her to be his VP." Well, short of picking Hillary himself, McCain's appeal to those angry PUMAs is, "I'm man enough to put a woman on the ticket." And Palen made the same 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling reference in her acceptance speech. Might work with some of them.

Serial, I agree with almost everything you said in your last post. The fact that she's a woman almost certainly had something to do with his pick- I just think it's crazy to think that he picked her so that Hillary supporters specifically would vote for him. That doesn't make sense - and I think you agree with me on that...yes?

I think the choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate undermines McCain's credibility. McCain has argued for months that Obama lacks experience. He's claimed that without this "experience", Obama was not ready to lead the country. But then this 72 year old, with a history of cancer, chooses an inexperienced running mate. The person who has to be ready to become president at a moments notice. This choice tells me that McCain was did not truly believe the argument he was making about Obama experience. If he did he would not have made this choice. The experince argument was just the only one he could make.
