Arizona Law Professor: McCain Not Eligible To Be President
In the most detailed examination yet of Senator John McCain's eligibility to be president, a law professor at the University of Arizona has concluded that neither Mr. McCain's birth in 1936 in the Panama Canal Zone nor the fact that his parents were American citizens is enough to satisfy the constitutional requirement that the president must be a "natural-born citizen." The analysis, by Prof. Gabriel J. Chin, focused on a 1937 law that has been largely overlooked in the debate over Mr. McCain's eligibility.

Read the entire article. An individual voter doesn't have standing to bring these charges up. Obama would probably be the only one who would, and he co-sponsored the resolution declaring McCain eligible.

Actually, let's talk bigger conspiracy. I think if McCain becomes President, the RNC will then use this to try to get Gov Swartzenegger on the bill to become the next president...

Read the article. McCain did not become a citizen until he was almost one year old. (There is something to debate, even if you find it boring or scary or are not into constitutional legalistic analysis.)

On a side note, some of those HuffPo comments are real gems. One person says McCain doesn't have American values because he's not "natural born." Another says that the Republicans are bringing this up so they can switch their candidate at the last minute. Because that's a really smart way to win an election! (Actually, several people mention this; it's priceless!) I always love reading the comments on the websites that are extreme in either direction. There are a lot of nutty people out there!

And my son's birth certificate clearly states he is a "Natural Born Citizen"

I am so sick of this being brought up by people who should know better. McCain is eligible for the following reasons: 1. Born on Military installation considered AMERICAN SOIL no matter where it is located. 2. Born of a military person serving overseas 3. Born of two American citizens. Sorry to be so huffy. One of my children was born overseas and this topic really bothers me.

Actually, I have seen multiple reports on this already. I remember it coming up in 2000, too. Old news, if you ask me.

Totally, yesteryear!

interesting. something tells me that if even one of these things were true about obama we'd have already seen 3 hour-long specials on fox news all about it - with a few anchors pulling the whole "osama, oops, i mean obama!" thing a few times as well.

Let's just have the election anyway. You know, for sentimental reasons.

Jillness, I wonder the same thing. Plus, I thought this was old news and incorrect at that.

I am still confused as to how his parents being citizens doesn't trump everything. :?

What a bunch of whoey. Does this have anything to do with the fact that John McCain is neck and neck with Obama, and is looking more and more like he can actually win?
