Ashley Todd Confesses to Making Up Story of Attack

Update: Todd Confesses to Making Up Story of Attack

A Pittsburgh police commander told a Pittsburgh investigative reporter that Todd confessed to making up the story of the politically motivated attack.

Investigators said the photos from the ATM machine and "the photographs were verified as not being the victim making the transaction." Investigators continued, "Because of the inconsistencies in her statements, Ms. Todd was asked to submit to a polygraph examination which she agreed to do." Todd will face charges, but it's unclear what they are at this time.

Did anyone else see the video she posted about how this janitor (who, you guessed it, matched her description) tore down her posters because they weren't approved?

Couldn't she be just a little crazy with no morals? And I do find it kind of hard to believe that this task wasn't a least a little bit politically motivated.

I don't know. Personally I'd be more inclined to just go with batshit crazy if this were the only thing she'd done. This seems more like she started out telling little lies, non-crazy lies, and kept basically getting away with it (or not having serious consequences) and so she kept doing it. For example, I somehow got on the McCain email list, and one of the first emails I got was an invitation to make phone calls for the campaign from home. You didn't have to go to an office, just go to their website and they'd give you names and phone numbers to call. And it crossed my mind that I could log in and either not call those people or call them and encourage them to vote for Obama or call them and be rude. I didn't, because that's super shady and unethical, it's wrong. Ashley Todd, I think, would have made a different decision, were she me. But I don't think making fake calls is crazy, just really sketchy. I don't think Ashley Todd is crazy, she just has no morals.

I don't know, it still sounds to me like "I'm crazy, and this is just one way I've found to get attention."
True-Song True-Song 8 years
Well that's at least two other times she lied in relation to a political campaign. She's obviously just waaaay too wrapped up in it. (I was going to make a joke about any McCain supporters missing from Citizen Sugar since Wednesday night, but I'm afraid it would taken more as a crack against conservatives than how I would mean it as a crack against the insanity of Citizen Sugar generally.)
Michelann Michelann 8 years
Does it?
True-Song True-Song 8 years
Agreed. But it makes her "this wasn't politically motivated, I'm just crazy" line harder to swallow.

Wow, that's an even less believable story. Seriously, nobody cares if you support Ron Paul. Most people just ask "Who's Ron Paul?". What a nut.
True-Song True-Song 8 years
Apparently, she's done something similar before:
In March, Ms. Todd was asked to leave a grass-roots group of Ron Paul supporters in Brazos County, Texas, group leader Dustan Costine said. He said Ms. Todd posed as a supporter of former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee and called the local Republican committee seeking information about its campaign strategies. "She would call the opposing campaign and pretend she was on their campaign to get information," Mr. Costine said last night. "We had to remove her because of the tactics she displayed. After that we had nothing to do with her." About a month earlier, he said, Ms. Todd sent an e-mail to the Ron Paul group saying her tires were slashed and that campaign paraphernalia had been stolen from her car because she supported Mr. Paul. "She's the type of person who wants to be recognized," Mr. Costine said.

Jumping in late here. To me, clearly, she's mentally ill. Self-mutilating herself, and making up that hare-brain story?? This woman is unwell.

I am amazed people think they can make up this garbage and expect to get away with it...

"If she's going to get help, she should get it with her own resources." Em, I absolutely agree. I think she's wasted enough government time and money.

It's kind of sad that someone chose the election to, well, basically ruin her life. She put her name out there attached to this story, and...well, now she's kinda screwed, isn't she? I also don't care if she gets help. Call me insensitive, but I don't care. I've heard stories about people coming back from Desert Storm and Iraq who weren't able to receive proper disability and adequate counseling...those people need more help from the government. If she's going to get help, she should get it with her own resources.

Back to the original topic though, why on earth didn't the McCain people do a little research on their own before this story got out of hand? They can't afford to take time out of the campaign for this rubbish.

When looking at statistics of black men in jail you also have to take into account the number that are wrongfully imprisoned, especially those languishing on death row. The justice system is much better served for those that are rich.

margokhal - you definitely make a good point, and if that man is honestly innocent or can't be proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt then I hope he is exonerated soon as well. But I still don't think that reason alone is enough to explain the fact that black men outnumber white men in prison more than 5:1 (I think I did the math right, but math is a weakness for me, so please correct me if I'm wrong). I have no doubt that in many cases black men are treated unfairly, and I find that appalling. But I don't think that that alone can explain away that ratio. Anyway, I think I've had enough of this thread (which no doubt will make many of you happy). But I do want to say that I am not a racist and for those of you that have tried to paint me as one I think you have been misinterpreting my posts. I do my best to only judge people on who they really are, whether or not they have a good heart and good intentions, and by their actions. Race has nothing to do with it. I just refuse to ignore the facts in order to be politically correct, even if it does make me a target.
