For some reason, the father-daughter aspect of "A Girl's Guide to Hunting and Fishing" by Melissa Bank as well as "The Glass Castle" by Jeanette Walls spring to mind.

I like "Papa, Please Get the Moon For Me" by Eric Carle !! :) It's a little kid book about the sheer adoration of a daughter by her father.

sup tres -- great list. i used to love the ramona books! another amazing book about a father and daughter is Disgrace by JM Coetzee. it's definitely difficult, not at all heartwarming like these books. maybe it's best saved for a couple months after father's day.....
