Blago was impeached for issues beyond the federal criminal matter. The legislature does have the right to determine that a governor is for some reason failing to do his job - simply stated, impeachment is like a grand jury investigation which is conducted by the House. The Senate conducts the actual trial. That's what happened to Blago and it didn't violate the Constitution.

What happened to innocent till proven guilty? Even my father (a die hard conservative Republican) who knows Rod but has never voted for him ever believes he was either set up or in the least his Constitutional right to a fair trial has been taken away. If any of you were arrested would you not want to be considered innocent until otherwise proven guilty? I live in Illinois and I knew Rod way back before he ever won his first election and while I have not seen him in 12 years it does not mean I would convict him based on excerpts from tapes or want him taken out of office until his guilt is proven beyond a reasonable doubt. That is what our country was founded on and he deserves the same treatment as any other citizen. What is wrong with people who set out to form witch hunts without hearing all of the evidence. I do not appreciate the media in their sensationalistic reporting because they have turned this into a circus. Let all the good work he has done for the children in my state be his record until or if he is convicted. Do not toss the principles of the Constitution on the floor and disregard what we fight so strongly to uphold.

Oh well, his forceful self-defense didn't do him any good.

"Blagojevich says if you're going to fire me, Obama has to fire Rahm Emanuel." Oh please. This man is so out of there. Blagojevich hasn't gone peacefully and his actions has made him look even more guilty.

I'm with hypnoticmix, as much as I like to make fun of his hairdo and secretly thinks he's so 'out there,' and sounds somehow insincere. He's not been convicted of a crime that's he's been accused of. But if later on, he's been proven guilty in the court of law, I'd also agree of him being gone not a moment too soon.

His ego is bigger than the belly of a woman carrying octuplets. The narcissism is appalling, he reeks of it and he's stinking up the joint.

Careful, you're questioning Emanuel based on comments made by Rod "I remind myself of Gandhi, Mandela, King, Stewart and Cooper - but I'm the anti-Nixon" Blagojevich.

If something fishy between Emanuel and Blago went on, I'd rather it come out now rather than later.

Some very good pragmatic points aside like he has not been convicted of anything nor is there proof on the table, Gov. Blagojevich lost my benefit of the doubt when he did not cease an opportunity on January 14 to request that he be allowed to call witnesses in his defense when the opportunity was there for him to do so and secondly his decline to swear in today so that he could be cross examined by the prosecutor instead opting to simply deliver a speech. Despite my doubts about him however I strongly disagree with he (timing) of this impeachment because I do believe that it has been expedited for political reasons. If this were an impeachment based on Justice and Justice alone then the impeachment should be brought forth when the evidence to convict is brought forth and not a day sooner.

"Rahm() is definitely a force to be reckoned with . It is known that he doesn't take no for an answer. I really hope he's not involved in that brand of politics." The way you describe is him is EXACTLY why I find it hard to believe he is not involved in this brand of politics.

Rahm() is definitely a force to be reckoned with . It is known that he doesn't take no for an answer. I really hope he's not involved in that brand of politics. Blago is a sinking ship and wants to take everyone down with him. Such a sad and pathetic man, he truly disgusts me.

...seriously, I was his idea? I used that when I was 6, and even then it didn't work. Joking aside, I don't want Rahm Emmanuel in the white house if he really is involved in this. (and I have a hard time believing he he had no knowledge of this whatsoever.)

I'll give you one Charlie Rangel for one Dick Arney... (I'm simply saying there are embarrassments on both sides of the aisle.)

Blago is getting on my nerves. I love this quote: "So if you're going to throw him out of office, Blago argued, "let's demand that President Obama fire Rahm Emanuel, because Rahm Emanuel is the one who gave me this idea." - I think it is nice Obama went to Sasha's school. Wonder if that led to any, 'my dad can call the Army on your dad'. :P

Dick Armey, yikes! Total douche in my opinion.
