Good analogy, hunter! And Dave, I totally see where you're coming from. I don't think saying, "I need my gasoline-powered car right now to survive," and saying, "I support the development of new technologies so I won't need my gasoline-powered car in the future," are mutually exclusive.

It could be that too. :) I also know that my job as a salesman is not a secure career. Recently, my boss's boss's boss was fired for not making his numbers. He had a $10,000,000 goal, and he only brought in $9,900,000. I have enough to worry about without someone else mandating that I change cars to something that will hinder my ability to do my job. :)

Sometimes Dave, I think it all boils down to resistance to change with you. You just don't like it! :)

I agree with the theory Stephley, but my car is my family's livelihood. Take that away and you condem my family. I'm sure I can do other things, but I won't make the kind of money I'm making at what I'm doing. Create a kind of car that does the same thing as my gas-powered auto, and doesn't cost 6 figures, and I'll consider buying it.

What I don't understand in the claims that McCain=oil spills. It is such a vague and ambiguous statement without any proof. It is like me saying because my students turned 16 this year, they are going to be killing everyone on the road because they are young and driving.

An electric car can get you where you're going - if it's your car's performance vs. our environment, I think your car draws the short straw.

Solar panels won't propel my car. There has not been an electric car yet that performs as well as a gasoline powered engine. I look forward to seeing progress in alternative fuels, but corn isn't the answer for our biofuels.

Solar panels don't spill and wind doesn't leave slicks. Why leave the environment to chance? :)

But as our demand grows, there is going to be more boats, more opportunity for spills, etc. Drilling closer to home would mean that the boats travel a smaller distance, therefore are not on the seas as much, and therefore have less chance of colliding with anything.

More drilling, more boats, more opportunity for spills, leaks and slicks.

How does a tanker spill have anything to do with off-shore drilling? Two boats can collide that are bringing imported oil.

If McCain gets elected, there will be more oil drilling and leaks and slicks along our coasts. And guess which company deals with leak detection??? Of course, Halliburton. $$$$$
