I think we have been on here so much lately that we are cycling together. :pms:

A lot of us are back and everyone seems to be being nicer to each other. Both sides!

I'm not a super frequent poster, but I do when I see fit. But I have to say it has gotten rather nasty from both sides of the fence. I'm a more of a "middle of the road" person myself. I miss hearing from our conservative posters on here. Being that I sit more in the middle I like to hear both sides perspectives. It's sad really.

You're not a flip flopper. You've made a strategic redirection. ;)

Yes, I decided to switch it up. What can I say, I'm a flip flopper!

Thanks martini! It's good to know that my efforts have not all been in vain!

:drink: Thanks Martini. It's nice to see that "some radical Liberals" are reachable. ;)

>Perhaps the reason the conservatives see more insulting remarks is that they have a better sense of what good manners are. Now, that's not really helping. Maybe it's "blanket condemnation and condescension," but I have a hard time with anyone who's not allowing for the possibility that maybe, just maybe, they think the liberals are ruder because they're a conservative or think the conservatives are the real twerps because they're a liberal.

Agreed, lovlie - you said it well! I so enjoy these debates, and I have had my mind changed on a subject because of what was presented on one of these threads once! (UnDave and Lilkimbo, you can be quite proud of yourselves! ;-) ) I enjoy the lively debate and really hope that everyone will eventually come back.

Actually amy it reminds me of the way I used to wear my tevas in the winter. :innocent: With pants of course. Ugh I can't believe I just admitted to it!

lovelie -- well put. everyone needs to take that deep breath and move on. this is just getting embarrassing... BUT, i just have to say, lainetm, come on! conservative or liberal, each person speaks for themselves. i don't think any of us can claim to say we are the best judge of what's "proper" or not. and i think your comment is, as jill points out, an example of the condescension you're complaining about.

I, too like to watch these debates from afar (seems my job requires me to argue quite frequently) I do not care to elevate my blood pressure fruitlessly on online boards. Most of the time, I learn a lot from all of the posters on both sides...and I would have to agree that the instigating comments do come from both sides. However, that is to be expected..we are not talking about grandmas favorite cupcake recipes here, we are talking about very significant, very opposing matters...and it is nice to know that there are very informed, active citizens out there that care about such matters. So let us all take a deep breath, shake hands, and move forward with our witty dialogues.

"However, when it comes down to mindless proselytizing, name-calling, and self-righteous condescension, I can't be bothered. There are a couple of denizens here who are true experts of that attitude, presumably the product of years of experience." "Perhaps the reason the conservatives see more insulting remarks is that they have a better sense of what good manners are." To me, these comments seem to contradict each other. The left leaning folks are the masters of condescension, but yet you say the conservatives must have a better sense of what good manners are? :?

hypno: "...that is what we're here for to learn from each other through vigorous yet civil debate. Now the only think that gets me is the condescending name calling. That's not cool." Hypno, you're a dear, we need more of you around here! Unfortunately, not everyone seems to be here for a free and fair exchange of ideas. I see too many comments which display a closed-minded, inflexible stance and utter disdain for anyone who disagrees. I see more blanket condemnation and condescension coming from the left side of the aisle than the right side. Perhaps the reason the conservatives see more insulting remarks is that they have a better sense of what good manners are. It's not that I picked up my skirts and ran. It's more like I got tired of the smell from the sewage plant and moved.

You're such a dear, we need more of you here! I'm all about being open minded and willing to learn from one another. However, when it comes down to mindless proselytizing, name-calling, and self-righteous condescension, I can't be bothered. There are a couple of denizens here who are true experts of that attitude, presumably the product of years of experience. I wouldn't say I pulled up my skirts and ran. If the bias is something about comments being removed, it would be hard for us to see or judge that. There's not usually an announcement about it.

I totally agree amybdk. btw...are those YOUR feet in socks and tevas? ;)

I, like liliblu, read more than I post. I also have not seen the liberal bias. Not saying it's not there. Furthermore, I believe the condescending and rude comments posted here come from all sides. I wish everyone could either agree to try to be a bit more thick skinned or be more sensitive and just go with it. I have noticed less and less conservative comments as of late which makes me sad. I value the well thought-out points that everyone brings to the table, from all sides. I hope that whatever drama is lurking around gets sorted out so that Citizensugar can continue to be a well-rounded (from my perspective) community.

"Maybe conservatives feel ganged up on because there seems to be more liberals posting comments?" But the conservatives are represented pretty evenly in the "top 5 posters" each month, so I don't think it is quantity. At the end of the day, we are all a part of this little community, and we make of it what we want. I don't know about you guys, but some Hugs and Drinks sound pretty good, then I am moving on! :drinks:  :drinks:  :drinks:

I read more than I post, but I have not seen this liberal bias some are talking about. Maybe conservatives feel ganged up on because there seems to be more liberals posting comments? I've had a few people post comments to me that I found condescending. But, this one of the friendliest places to comment.
Jillness Jillness 9 years
I see your point Torg, but it appears that people sincerely don't see it coming from both sides.

Jill, one, that's from yesterday. Two, I don't think that's actually helpful...
