woah! One of the catchier ads I think I've seen out of the Catholic world in a long time. I agree that I'd rather see money go to real people than to politics, but they certainly, certainly, should have been allowed to air their viewpoint.

If that's not why you're against the ad, why bring it up?

But this isn't a perfect *world*...
momma-tikita momma-tikita 8 years
$1.5 cant solve the world's problems but it can sure help a lot of people in need. Listen Im not against the ad because it could possibly save a baby's life. In a perfect world all babies should have a chance to be born. But this isn't a perfect and a lot of shit happens. I'm against that ad because they are using Obama's face on something he wouldn't even agree with. Also the amount of mula they would have spent on something MORE people would have seen on the web anyways is crazy. You have a different view on it and thats fine.

I simply hate the "you can't possibly spend money on anti abortion unless all of the entire worlds problems are solved" argument. it is shallow and short sighted.
momma-tikita momma-tikita 8 years
Who's telling people how to spend their money? All im saying is with that amount of money you could help people who need help now and let that ad run around the internet to "change lives". In my opinion. Can I not have my opinion?! I do have that right don't I?

1 child saved is worth 1.5 million to them. It isn't about money, it's about doing God's Work and helping mothers to not make a decision that can jeopardize their eternity. I can't say that I would have spent my money on that, but I am not them. Neither are you, and as long as you can buy your $80 + dresses and $100 + sunglasses and all the clothes you want you cannot criticize anyone for spending their money the way they want to. Did you donate to catholicvote? Then stop thinking you have a right to tell them how to spend their money.

I know lil- I mean the time the people who have posted the comments have spent arguing with us could have been spent at homeless shelters!

Buy, not but.
lilkimbo lilkimbo 8 years
Well, then, I think it's stupid to sit here and argue something online when we all could be out there helping alleviate those problems. I'm sure everyone who has commented on this thread (collectively) have spent more than 1.5 million on things we didn't need. It was stupid of all of us to but those things. In fact, it's stupid for the entire Sugar network to even exist!
momma-tikita momma-tikita 8 years
Well then I think its great idea. Spend $1.5 million to spark up a discussion since the world right now is so perfect. You know? No starving children, no homeless people on the street, no lack of money to find cures..ect.
lilkimbo lilkimbo 8 years
I think it's exactly the kind of impact they wanted to spend the money on. They had to know the ad wasn't going to completely change anyone's mind. I would guess they wanted to spark discussion and they certainly have.

haus, I have that song in my head now! Awful!
momma-tikita momma-tikita 8 years
Yes, but obviously not the impact they wanted to spend $1.5 million on.
hausfrau hausfrau 8 years
For instance, freecreditreport.com I could sing that stupid song for you right now. I don't use the service. But the ad still had an impact on me.
hausfrau hausfrau 8 years
Probably not. But impact is impact, it doesn't need to be a concrete change in behavior. Maybe this ad will make people do more research on the subject and then they will change their minds. Maybe this ad will make people more obstinate in their own stances. Maybe it will make them hate Catholics! Who knows! :) But the point is that all of those ouctomes are impact in some form. Ads like these are meant to give you a pause and provoke some kind of response. Some people it might be ardent support, others it might be fury, either way that's still impact.
kastarte2 kastarte2 8 years
But has it changed anybody's stance, haus? Has anybody here gone from pro choice to pro life because of the way this commercial affected them?
liliblu liliblu 8 years
How is that impact haus? No one has changed their opinion on here.
hausfrau hausfrau 8 years
Kas why would that be naive? Its gotten us talking. That alone is impact.
kastarte2 kastarte2 8 years
It is naive to think that this ad is going to have any impact.
StolzeMama StolzeMama 8 years
That's what the catholic church believes. Like it or not it is their money and who are you to tell them what to do with it. I don't see anyone complaining about BO spending millions of dollars to air his little mini movie before election say. And to Kas- I have seen many women change their mind/stance on abortion. It would be naive to think that every is so staunch in there belief or that it is so cut and dry. Women may also be pro-choice but not want to have an abortion them selves. There is a BIG difference there. And if this ad saves 1 baby, it was worth it.
momma-tikita momma-tikita 8 years
"If you want to lead a Godless life, why should the catholic spend that money on you?" So do I live a godless life because I'm pro-choice? I stand up and say "who the fuck is the government to tell us what to do with our bodies?". That apparently says that I live life without God. sheesh.

Amen kas!

How many people have felt different about abortion after participating in Citizen discussions? How many pro choice people have seen fetus pictures posted online by the pro lifers and thought, "well, gee, now that I've seen a picture of a fetus, I feel differently about this whole abortion issue"? How many pro life people have analyzed statistics offered by pro choicers and thought, "you know, after reviewing those numbers, I really don't think it is murder after all"? :notworthy: So well said, Kas.

If my last post can be removed then the one calling people Godless should also be removed.
