Burger King Will Blow Your Mind Ad in Singapore

Adrageous: Burger King Goes to Singapore

I guess like a marauding douchebag businessman on vacation away from the wifey, Burger King feels it can go to a foreign land, throw away any standards of decent behavior, and just go wild.

Take this Burger King ad in Singapore. I couldn't believe it was real, but alas, it is. You know if they tried to get away with this here, they'd get slapped upside the head by all the angry women folk brainwashed by feminism. (You know, cuz that's how they think?) But in Singapore? Hopefully some women (and men!) will be up in arms at this visual pollution. I mean — if chewing gum is illegal in Singapore, sexist crap advertisements should be, too.

while i don't think it is tasteful, i do think that it is kinda funny. i'm not big on using sex to sell products, but i don't however see anything sexist about this ad.

I caught the sarcasm. Then again, I spent 2 years on a forum full of some of the most sarcastic people I've ever met on the internet (and sorely miss the people on the forum... however it had cruddy mods who kept letting child porn be posted on an "art" site... I left after I got suspended for reporting some pretty blatant CP, then left the site when my suspension was up). But I think this ad is funny. It's something I'd hang in my room and make "oh look, it's 7 inches!" jokes about (like the "my video card is 9 INCHES" jokes my roommate and I made last year when she bought a new video card). Then again, I like the act it's emulating. And I wouldn't say the model looks like a brainless blow-up doll, she looks stylized, IMO. Only like a blow-up doll if you're looking for one.

I didn't know what this ad was supposed to mean until I read what Tres wrote. I'm shocked that this ad is going to appear in Singapore because I know how strict the media censorship board in Singapore is. Also, the main reason why chewing gum was banned is simply because Singaporeans were disposing it by sticking it everywhere (including elevator buttons which caused many elevators to malfunction).

It's not exactly "tasteful" is it? I couldn't resist... Anyway, why would this even appeal to anyone? It doesn't exactly make Burger King's food look appetizing.

I always get the sarcasm Tre. No worries. Your die hard readers will stick with you and stick up for you. ;)

I thought the sarcasm was very obvious as well. Christ, you guys. Stop picking on her. I just think there are some things sex shouldn't sell.

"Angry women folk brainwashed by feminism" is pretty obviously sarcasm, at least to me. For one thing, why would a writer for a women's social site actually write that with any degree of sincerity? For another, it's followed by "You know, cuz that's how they think," is a pretty good indicator too.

Alphachickee I would LOVE it if I could see that poster with your slogan on a billboard. Otherwise...not so much.

Wow, guys. "Brainwashed by feminism" was my vituperative sarcasm. I guess that didn't register. That's the kind of rhetoric sexist men use to describe women who complain of sexism and get angry by it — as I got angry by this poster.

I like AlphaChickee's suggestion! @spacekatgal - as someone who also enjoys that particular pastime, it's not so much the suggestion of a specific sex act that bothers me, but the fact that the model basically looks like a brainless blow-up doll.

Um...I think she said "brainwashed by feminism" as sarcasm. People, whats with all the Tres hating all the time? This isn't a required website, so maybe people should find websites better suited to them if thats really what they want. Personally, I think its stupid but a little funny and did a great job since people are talking about it (and isn't that the point of making ads?)

i don't know what's more disturbing - the ad, or tres suggesting that feminists are brainwashed. *shudders*

"the angry women folk brainwashed by feminism" sheesh, I'm going back to jezebel. The writing here isn't strong enough to convey snark or irony, if hopefully dear god, this was the case

I agree with Cowgirlrred, 'brainwashed by feminism' is a rather inappropriate line - I think women who wouldn't consider themselves feminists would still find this ad tacky.

It will blow your mind away As if the picture itself wasn't suggestive enough :oy:

It's vulgar. I think it's more than suggestive. Come on, the "BK Super Seven Incher???" Given all the nuances collectively, it takes very little imagination to receive the message.
briannaNicole briannaNicole 8 years
It's suggestive, yeah I'll give you that. I wouldn't call this "wild" or "get up in arms about it." Think about the Paris Hilton and Audrina Patrdige BK commercials - is washing a car and sitting on the beach in a bikini really related to burgers? ...this is tame in comparison. I honestly could care less about either version. People need to relax, articles like this give them the much desired publicity they set out for.

If ridiculous ads like this exist, women should at least get to write the text for it. How much better would this be? "Put Something Big in Your Mouth For a Change"
