Carrie Diaries: Can Teen Carrie Bradshaw Be as Endearing as Adult Carrie?

Can a Teen Carrie Bradshaw Be as Endearing as Adult Carrie?

Here's an excerpt from OnSugar blog Confessions of a Boy Toy about Candace Bushnell's new book The Carrie Diaries.

I once was willing to embrace a Sex and the City prequel on HBO (nowhere else) and with a younger cast (late 20s), but a 17-year-old Carrie Bradshaw just sounds obnoxious. Teens aren't mature enough to pull off self-deprecation — one of Carrie's most endearing attributes. And how to approach the subject of teen sex? I'd appreciate some strong safe-sex shout-outs and no sugarcoating. Teens have the most fascinating sex lives if represented frankly. Is Bushnell bold enough?

She's bold enough to try and track back the development of her main, money-making protagonist, one so vividly entrenched in pop culture. But Bradshaw is not spoiled enough to be page-turnable Blair Waldorf, and Bushnell is too spoiled to be as perceptive and engaging as Curtis Sittenfeld (author of Prep). Watch her talk about The Carrie Diaries, and you decide whether it's tailor-made for the screen.

Odd. A 20-something Carrie would have made more sense I think. At the very least, I would read it to see how four completely different women wound up being BFFs (well three, Carrie's the "default" :P). I love that nothing was ever really said about it in the show, 'cause obviously Miranda/Samantha/Charlotte are there to cater to different women. Now if only they had the nerdy one. kay I'm done being side-tracked

Ehhhh... was never a fan of Carrie. (my friends say I'm like her tho :\) If there was a series about her, I would check it out, but it wouldn't be on the top of my must watch dvr list.

Meh. Over it. Only the first few seasons were good; the rest--beating a dead horse. First movie? Overrated. Second? Cartoonish overkill.

i also don't know how this will work however i know i'll read it/watch it anyway because i love SATC and love Candace Bushnell - but i do wish they'd stop milking the most of out of this and let it die gracefully!

Oh I think it would work perfectly, since I already find the adult version of everyone highly obnoxious.

Honestly, I'm a little over Sex and the City fever. I don't think the first movie was necessary, and the second one definitely isn't (although I'll see it anyway). The series aged gracefully and now they're just drawing it out. If there's a prequel I doubt I'd watch it.
