DJ the Cat Rolled Up Bearing Rings For the Grooms, and We Can't Get Enough of It

Sure, you probably have seen a cute kid carrying a ring down many a wedding aisle. But have you seen a cat rolling up with the rings? In a tux? Wearing a bow tie? Didn't think so. Just when we thought we'd seen it all, Warren and Scott's beautiful modern wedding stepped it up a notch, feline fun included, and we love it.

The couple's story began in June 2013 when they met on OkCupid. Scott was attracted to Warren's online profile, which featured many photos of Warren's two cats, Milo and DJ. Warren thought that Scott's pickup line "hello fellow cat-lover!" was unusual but refreshing. He liked Scott's online profile as well, which featured his adopted cat, Jack. It was clear that at the very least, the two had their love of felines in common. Warren responded to Scott: "You had me at 'cat'!" Fast forward to their wedding day, and these two phrases are now engraved on the inside of the couple's wedding bands.

Shortly after they started dating, the pair had a play date for their cats. The boys got along so well, it sealed the deal. The rest, as they say, is history. Then it was time for a wedding celebration surrounded by family and friends.

Warren and Scott wanted to make their wedding special: unique, lighthearted, fun, understated, yet memorable. They hosted a destination wedding so they could marry in a warm climate and have a weekend full of festivities. They wanted travel time to be short and comfortable for elderly family members, and they desired a semitropical location other than Hawaii, so they landed on La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla, CA. The day was designed to bring family and friends together to celebrate Warren and Scott's future. The wedding weekend began with a welcome reception, which specifically invited all the furry companions of the human guests.

DJ the cat was the honorary ring bearer, since he is the most well-behaved [1] and therefore well-equipped for the important role. His special stroller was decked out with green garland, white hydrangeas, and orange roses. He was parked behind Warren for the length of the ceremony, witnessing the whole event.

The couple's three cats — DJ, Milo, and Jack — set the theme for the overall wedding design. Modern and clean design were the key, so the cat-themed wedding details were very subtle. Yonder Design created wedding invitations with a modern "cat herringbone" pattern, which actually became the basis of the wedding design. The cat herringbone pattern was also used on the wedding cake, re-created on fabric for custom monogrammed pillows in the lounge, served as the paper pattern for the dinner menus, and even re-created as a light projection onto the dance floor.

For the reception, Warren and Scott included a silent disco tent where guests could dance to the music of their own choosing wearing headphones. To cap off the night, fireworks lit the sky and guests created a Sparkler Tunnel to serve as the grand exit pathway for the couple's sendoff.
