Condoms vs. the Pill: Which Do You Prefer?

When it comes to preferred methods of contraception among women, condoms have now caught up to the contraceptive pill in the UK. According to a new survey, condoms and the pill are equally popular among women, and those who said they preferred condoms cited its ability to protect against STDs. Of course I'm sure many cautious women use both methods, and with all the other contraception options out there, maybe you use neither! But if you had to choose between the condom and the pill, which do you prefer?

The pill. Hate the feel of condoms. Love the feel of a penis.

Bella, I had the same experience! I had no clue the stinking pill was making me feel the way I was. Never again will I take that form of birth control. It did a number on my emotions for years!!!

Well I was on YAZ for years and now it's starting to really give me bad side effects, nausea and horribly irregular periods and migraines. So I'm done with it, maybe done with the Pill in general cause I'm sick of all the hormones. I'm married with two kids and we are not really sure we want another but we're willing to use condoms if we have to. I certainly don't really trust the withdrawl method to work for me.

Condoms all the way. I spent years on the Pill and now that I'm off it, I feel much better. (Didn't even know I was feeling bad before.)

Condoms make me itch. And I think they're gross. And when you start wrapping a person in plastic, then you really ought to wonder whether you should be having sex with them.

If I had to choose just one, it'd be the pill hands down. I have a bleeding disorder which makes my period absolute misery for oh, I don't know ... 18-19 days a month sometimes? ... if I'm not on hormonal BC, so you'll pretty much have to pry my Seasonique out of my cold, dead hands. We don't LOVE using condoms, but still use either condoms or (occasionally) pulling out as a second method in conjunction with the pill .. we're not married/engaged yet so a baby's just not an option for us! Having been together for almost 2 years and having been only with each other, condoms for STI prevention aren't a concern.

I'm about to get back on the pill (no more implant, just wasn't for me) as that seems to have worked best. If I were a single girl I'd pair the pill with condoms.

I used condoms until i was engaged, but i HATED them. The smell and the feel of the greasy crap.. ugh, its disgusting. We just stopped using them once we both wanted kids and were financially stable, though i don't think we are really that fertile, lol. With absolutely no abstaining during fertile periods or protection it still took 2 years each to conceive each child.

Anonymous 22, whatever happened to being in a secure relationship where you don't cheat on your partner and your partner doesn't cheat on you? Whatever happened to being responsible and being tested for std's and sti's and requiring the same from your partner? It is possible.

The pill, 100% I can't stand condoms. They make me hurt down there, which makes sex unpleasurable for me.

I'm on the pill, but we still use condoms (in a long-term monogamous relationship with the same man, and we lost our virginity to each other). His sister is a pill baby, and I know a lot of pill babies, plus, I've never been tested for STDs (though, he got tested recently, and came up clean). Plus, while it's easy to tell when a condom fails, it's hard to tell when the pill does.

Just to add I've had the same partner for 4 1/2 years now, but we're not married or engaged so I can't lie and say I am comfortable having unprotected sex.

Actually I prefer both because if one should fail it should back up the other. Some days I tend to forget to take my pills so the condom is an alternate contraceptive. I honestly don;t really like the feeling without a condom, I don;t really know why.

I couldn't take hormonal birth control so after children I became sterilized. I've used condoms and dislike them. My SO is also sterilized so if we have children it's meant to happen.

I hate condoms but if I was with someone new I would use one just to be safe. I love the pill for so many reasons and that is the only method I'm using at the moment with my long term bf. Condoms really kill the mood and I hate how they feel.
