Dear Poll: Do You Believe in One Soul Mate?

If you've ever seen The Notebook, Titanic, or Romeo and Juliet, you might believe that there really only is one soul mate for everyone. I mean, could you imagine Allie and Noah with anyone else but each other in the end? On the other hand, I'm sure you've been in more than one serious relationship where you thought he was the one, only to realize it was actually the guy after him that was. I go back and forth on this one but what I want to know is, do you believe that we're destined to only have one soul mate, or do you think it's possible to have more than one love of your life?

no, after reading "eat, pray, love" I love how the texan defines what a soulmate is.

No, I think it's all very circumstantial with luck thrown in. In life there are many possible matches for you. But the person you choose just happens to be in the same place in their life, at the same time as you, and you both want to settle down. However, even if things were to go awry tomorrow, would that mean you, or the other person, would never ever be able to find anyone else? I find that very hard to believe.

i always believed in it, and i had a relationship where i made him "the one." i didn't love the guy, but i tried to convinced myself i did because i thought i would be stuck with him. i was afraid to break up with him because he was SO unstable (he had a horrible case of OCD to a point where for part of high school he had to be home schooled, if he felt unclean or needed to clean something, he got to leave school, it was pretty bad) and i didn't want him to know how much i lied to him. i really thought i'd never get out of it. when i met jason, i met someone who could be no better. someone who liked almost everything i liked, except pickles and handbags

yes, but you don't have to necessarily have to end up with him/her. just like in Dawson's Creek Katie Holmes didn't end up with Dawson even though he was her soulmate

"I don't really believe in the 'soulmate' thing, but I do believe there are a few people out there who can be right for us." --I agree with Marci on this. I'm even married and I don't believe in soulmates. Nothing against my's just not something I ever believed in, never will!!

No, i dont buy into the soulmate BS, its dangerous, its why so many women stay with men they shouldnt be with because once they thought it was fate, and they had a soulmate, and they should wait around for that spark to come back.... I say there are many loves out there, not just one.

I just wanted to note that Allie and Noah do NOT live "happily ever after" in the movie the notebook....Allie has ALzheimers which is tearing Noah apart because he is so depressed. My boyfriend's grandparents are like Allie and Noah and I just want to say that just because you are with someone for a very long time does not mean it is happily ever after. I don't believe in soulmates in terms of relationships, but more so friendships.

I don't believe the idea that there's only one person out there for another. I believe that one could click and form lasting relationships with any number of people, it's just all about WHO you choose to live the rest of your life with. I do think that two people could really connect and love and respect each other in such a way that they won't need to look for another but it takes lots of hard work. No relationship is perfect, no matter how much 'love' is there to begin with.

I don't know... I just can't imagine dying and leaving my husband here without a chance of finding someone else.

I believe in soulmates, sure. There are some people that you connect with in ways and on levels that you just don't with the most other people. But, the concept of just one soulmate for each person...? Well, it's a sweet idea. But it's completely ludicrous. I mean, that there is just one other human soul in the entire universe that meshes with yours and that soul will happen to be born in the same century as you, probably the same decade, inhabit a person of the sex you are attracted to, etc... Pretty ridiculous. Wow, that sounds cynical. But, seriously...

I didn't believe in soulmates . . . until I met mine. It's undeniable. It's divine.

I don't believe in soulmates, but I do believe in being able to find one person who is near perfect for you. I say near perfect because nobody is 100% perfect!

The idea of one soul mate is such a beautiful and romanitc concept. But i think that becasue everyone changes that who and what we need chanes and we can find a number of people who can fit that at anytime in our life. Just different people that can nurture and touch parts of our soul, and who can change with us in a spectacular way if you choose to grow together.

I don't believe in soulmates. I feel like this might make me a cynic or maybe a bit heartless, but there it is.

I don't really believe in the 'soulmate' thing, but I do believe there are a few people out there who can be right for us. If anything happened to my fiance, I think that eventually I'd meet someone else who I could be happy with. It wouldn't be the same relationship, but I wouldn't want the same thing with someone else.

I think in order to believe in soulmates one would need to believe in souls.. and I don't. Nevertheless, it's a really intensely sweet idea and I really wish I could believe in it...

I believe there is one person that you are destined to be with, one that God made to share your life with. Sure you can love people multiple times in your life, but I believe there is one person that is just "it".

I think you can grow to love anyone, but that there is that one person you're meant for.
