Dear Poll: Do You Ever Cry For No Reason?

The other day my friend told me that during her fitness class, she suddenly and without cause just burst into tears, forcing her to leave early, and obviously making her feel very embarrassed. When I asked her what had happened, she said she didn’t know. She wasn’t dealing with PMS, but it was as if at that moment she just couldn't hold in the tears. I know I’ve had spontaneous crying fits. What about you?

this usually happens to me when im PMSing, i will cry over something little then realize its nothing big and this is when i realize im just being overly emotional. i hate when i do this in front of someone like my boyfriend and they ask me why im crying and i say i dont know (because i havent realized why im really crying yet). then when i do i usually try and laugh it off

I am not an emotional person like that, but I do shed tears ever once in a while.

it's happened a couple times, not because of anything at that time that's going on in my life, but i'm one of those people that doesn't really talk about what's going on so things sometimes build up and just let loose when i least expect it.

"Tears, idle tears, I know not what they mean. Tears from the depth of some divine despair, rise in the heart, and gather to the eyes." Though when I cry for no reason, I know the source, and I often fear supressing the emotion for so long and then errupting for, what seems like, no apparent reason might have onlookers think I'm a bit twisted inside. But the reason for the tears is always there. You just need to have the strength to face it, or expect "unexpeted" showers from time to time.

I usually cry for a reason. But it doesn't take much to make me cry. If anything I have a tendency to laugh without reason.

My mom use to tease me when I was younger for crying for no reason (or so she thought). I tend to let things go and when they build up I will start to cry all of a sudden. There's always a reason though. I sometimes think its a weakness I need to work on, its one thing to cry when I'm alone (after all everyone need to cry every once in a while) and a completely difference one to cry in public. When I get really mad I'll turn red and cry and that sucks because I could be yelling at you and telling you to rot in hell with tears coming down my eyes when I really don't want to cry. I'm just a weirdo!

Same with what Frenched said.

....as you all are describing...is why I never go to the movies...it's not the movie that makes me cry but a sore memory. I held my tears in SATC so hard my body was trembling...I'd wait for a club scene when the theater got darker to let a little go. It was worst than Charlotte holding her poop. I stick to the kid stuff in public :)

I've never even heard of this happening! I can cry easily (I've been known to be set off by a touching commercial even) but I always know WHY. How bizarre!

I don't cry very often, so when I do its usually over a bunch of things, the down side of that when I'm crying I'm letting go of bottled up feelings that I've had for so long, so is its never just tears its me full on gasping for air.Verrry embarrassing!

It takes a huge combination of stress, anger, and hurt to make me cry, and it's usually a long time coming.

I always have a reason why I am crying, even if it is a stupid one. Like if I am pms-ing I might cry at a sappy movie or commercial.

Yeah, I cried one time this summer for no reason, but it was because I was having a panic attack from drinking too much coffee. But usually if I cry in public, which is rare, it's because I'm reminded of something sad without realizing it.

If I'm crying the pot boiled over. Or someone's life's story touched my heart. I'm not sensitive but very sentimental. 'John' is my main source of tears...he swells my eyes for sure.

i've been crying a lot lately, for no real reason. I'm debating whether to go see a therapist cause I think something may be wrong.

YES. My tears come and go just like that. I am a very artistic/creative person as well, so my head is always in the clouds. I can be deliriously happy just as easily. A sad song, or even just a touching one, a beautiful poem, a child laughing in the street, memories of my family; it's all enough for a few tears...my tears are surfacing even when I type this! And then, they're gone. And I know they are not due to sadness, but just outlets of emotion. So I don't worry about those. During PMS however, I have serious crying spells, self-deprecating thoughts, deep sadness etc. But even then, I know it's the hormones and not some real sadness, so I just patiently wait until it's over.

If I'm crying I know why. Even if its coming from deep down I know where it's coming from and its usually when I am trying to hold something in and not let it bother me. Something triggers the emotion and the flood gates open. I recently did this to a guy I just started dating and he was scared out of his mind! I just kept crying and saying "Omg I'm so sorry". Luckily he was very sweet and understanding.

I'll cry randomly sometimes but usually it's because of something. I might've been something that I've whitheld for quite a while and all of a sudden, I'll be stressed out and burst into tears. I think this must be fairly normal.
