Dear Poll: Do You Snore?

Last night I was having dinner with some girlfriends and one of them was complaining about how loud her husband snores. We all got a chuckle out of her re-enactment, but when one of us asked her if she snored too, her hesitation was undeniable! She danced around the question for a few seconds, then reluctantly admitted that her hubby says she does, even though she doesn't believe him! Since we all know snoring crosses the gender line, tell me ladies, are you a snorer?

I am a very quiet sleeper! No snoring, talking or even loud breathing! My fiancé on the other hand snores when he lays on his back so I end up kicking him or nudging him in the night to roll onto his side to stop the noise! I feel bad, but I have to sleep too! My future sister-in-law has to wear earplugs while she sleeps because my fiancé's brother snores so loud. I saw a pillow in Brookstone that is supposed to help with snoring and sleep apnea... maybe they should be Christmas gifts for the both of them this year.

My husband says I snore sometimes, but apparently if he just tells me to roll over I do it in my sleep! If that doesn't work he elbows me. I never wake up, I just move in my sleep. He just likes to make fun of me in the morning. Both my parents were obnoxious snorers, so I'm lucky I only do it sometimes when I'm exhausted

jconcep, my dad stops breathing periodically in his sleep, too. A few years ago, he would stop for 3-7 seconds, gasp for breath, then start snoring horribly, and stop breathing, again, repeating the cycle. I told him to get surgery because I'm afraid of him dying in his sleep!! I'm sure it's gotten worse over the years... My mom told me I snore in my sleep, but my boy says it's barely noticeable. However, I've been told by anyone that slept in the same room as me that I grind my teeth really loudly. Apparently, on occasion, it wakes my boyfriend up and scares him for a few minutes until he can go back to sleep. I'm getting a Night Guard as soon as I am done with my retainers.

Only when I have a really bad cold. I had my tonsils taken out yesterday and I woke myself up a few times b/c I was snoring so loudly.

i used to snore really loudly and periodically stopped breathing in my sleep as well. i had a sleep study done and got diagnosed with sleep apnea. basically, your airway is obstructed by your throat muscles relaxing and/or excess tissue in your throat and causes you to stop breathing. snoring is a major symptom. sleep apnea not only deprives you of sleep, but puts many stresses on your body. the shock to the body from not breathing temporarily throws the body into panic mode, releasing stress hormones to get you to wake up and breathe again. it causes your blood pressure to go up and strain on your heart, which can lead to heart attacks. i now sleep wearing a mask connected to a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine that blows air into my airway so it does not close while i'm sleeping. it's not the most attractive thing, wearing a gas mask-like contraption on your face, but it is much more successful and less invasive than surgery, which has a high failure rate and lots of possible complications.

Not really unless I'm sick/allergies, in a weird position, or just plain wiped out, I don't snore. As my brother puts it... I purr. LOL.

Camperbarbie same with me. I was a 5 year old snoring like an old man! But after having my tonsils and adenoids out, no more snoring. My ex-boyfriend was a snorer and as sad as this sounds sometimes I miss hearing it and telling him to roll over!

I dont think I snore. But I grind my teeth something horrible. My ex was a really heavy sleeper and he said my grinding teeth woke him up on more than one occasion.

My parents said I snored bad before I had tonsils/adnoids removed, they said I stopped after that, but my husband said sometimes I do snore, probably when I have a cold or allergies are acting up.

When I'm sick or when my allergies are particularly bad, my own snoring sometimes wakes me up. Sad, but true.
