Dear Poll: Do You Tend to Overtalk?

Perhaps it's a female trait but there's just something in me that tends to overtalk when something is bothering me. There's no worse feeling than fighting with a loved one, especially your significant other, so when I feel like there are still things left unsaid I want to talk it out until they're resolved, even if it takes all night. Of course some people are of the sleep on it mindset, but what about you? Do you tend to overtalk until you feel better about things or is less sometimes more?

I just keep talking and talking and more things slip out that I didn't even know were bothering me. It's kinda a relief but I always end up upsetting my husband even more.

Well yeah, in regards to having a disagreement with somebody. I go on and on telling them how I feel and reasons for why I got pissed and how sorry I am, blah blah.

I def. talk a lot...but I don't think its OVERtalking, lol lol. I can't stand not having things worked out, I can't just wait till later to fix them...they need fixing right now! lol! :D And if its just a "girl-trait", why is it considered bad? Guys don't usually need to talk about things like that and girls do...that's just a difference, not right and wrong. Stupid sexist ideas.

I hate fighting with my bf. So if I think that I can talk to him and resolve thats what I want to do. He is the same way though. We actually had one of these "talks" yesterday. We were sitting in the park and I wouldn't let us leave until we talked through it. But since we did, it made the situation that we were "talking" about 100 times better.

My husband is the overtalker. So these days I guess I am an over-listener?

I over talk in all aspects.

No, but only b/c talking to my fiance in times of disagreement is like trying to rationalize with a 3 year old. It just doesnt get me anywhere and its a waste of time. :P And trying to get him to understand what I'm talking about is like explaining quantum physics to a 3 year old - there is just no comprehension there. ;)

I overtalk about everything, from what I ate that day to relationship problems. My boyfriend sits there and listens but doesn't talk nearly as much, so it makes me feel bad sometimes!

I overtalk everything, all of the time. I have to know as much as possible about everything. If I can't find out directly then I will find indirect means of finding it out.

Yes, I do this. Like itsme3683 I feel the same, when its late I feel like he's not listening but I have to do it. I cant move on.

Oh, yeah. I'm definitely guilty of this, and sometimes it isn't too bad, but some times it's awful and I can't let up for as long as I fee like there is something to be talked about. Usually, if it has something to do with my husband, I talk it to death, but after that I'm okish. Other things, we talk- usually my husband and I talk what ever is bothering me, to death, so I'm ok. :)

I definitely do with my boyfriend--sometimes it drives him crazy when it's late, which then makes me feel like he's not listening, and it goes on. But I just wouldn't be able to sleep in the same bed if there was something negative in the air... I've never regretted completely overtalking something through--gotta get it all out while it's fresh!

yeah, i do over-talk when something's bothering me. i do hate repeating myself, but in the end it helps think more and i feel better.

Yeah I tend to overtalk when something is bothering me. Once I finish talking about the situation, I feel a lot better and I am able to move on.

it really depends on the person and the reason we're fighting. If it's someone I can't do without (because I care too much), then maybe I'd overtalk. But if it's someone I really don't like that much, then maybe I would even use the excuse of the fight to refrain from having pointless conversations I can definitely do without. (this happens most commonly with people that I don't choose to have in my life, but have to interact to either way, i.e neighbours, classmates, work colleagues, etc.)

Not on relationshippy stuff...mainly when I am paranoid about something (whatever it is).

It depends but most of the time I like to think and sleep on it first. Occasionally when I am at my worst (think too many drinks, or PMS-ing) I have been a little quick to overdiscuss things, my boyfriend can testify.

Oh, I definitely do. I can't fall asleep or just go on with my day like nothing's happened. I'll take all the time I need to work it things out so everyone's comfortable.

I over talk entirely too much. But in the end it makes me feel better and it usually doesn't exacerbate the problem. If I can rephrase or repeat something to help the understanding then that's exactly what I want to do.

Sometimes, but generally, no. I say what I need to say, and I'm content. I don't over-talk, and I don't like repeating myself.
