Dear Poll: Do You Yell When You Fight?

Arguments can range from senseless bickering to full-fledged personal attacks. To avoid the latter, I often tell people to refrain from raising their voices; there’s just something about shouting that tends to escalate an argument. But even if you know that, in the heat of the moment and when you feel like you’re not being heard, the urge to yell is natural. So do you yell when you fight?

I raise my voice but not to the yelling level. I always want to but it doesn't seem like it would help matters at all.

i always start off the conversation very even tempered with the goal of NOT yelling, but i'm VERY hot tempered and i really do hold back a lot however in the end i'm always yelling, and then he mumbles under his breath and we're both very mature about it. (note the sarcasm). it's hard when you're trying to be calm about things since you know that ultimately that's how you're able to have a conversation and change things, but it's easier said than done i think.

I only yell when I'm being yelled at or when the person I'm arguing with isn't listening or refuses to take my side into account. I much prefer quite disagreements though.

No way. Ladies do not raise their voices. I have never in my life heard my father yell or raise his voice either, which is a wonderful thing. Hence I refuse to be with a man who yells. I nip that shit in the bud real quick if it ever happens!

I will raise my voice if the other person does...but rarely to the point of yelling...I'll cry if someone yells at me tho...kinda sad.

I don't know that I've ever yelled at my current boyfriend. My exes, however. Holy cow. I would scream and scream. This guy wouldn't stand for it so I don't ever do it.

In four years, my boyfriend and I have only yelled at each other twice. Usually, we say our pieces and let it go; we don't stew in it.

This is one of my biggest flaws that I am really trying to fix. I've been MUCH better lately. I have actually gotten where I don't yell unless I feel as if I seriously need to because otherwise I'm going to swing (which I would never do). But that's when I decide OK, yell, get your point across and SHUT it.

I don't know if I have ever yelled in my life. My husband laughs because if I have to yell, like trying to get someones attention, this tiny little "hey!" comes out. I can't help it.

Yeah when I'm really upset/pissed. I try not to because afterwards I feel like such a b*tch but sometimes I can't control it and I let my emotions get the best of me. :(

awwww italianblonde! :P I'll share my high pitched yells and screams with you! LOL Once I've yelled at a friend when I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ANGRY AT HER, I was literally screaming at the top of my lungs. she was so shocked and tried to yell back but couldn't hear herself over my voice. It was a shock to me too that I was capable of being such a BITCH!! In contrast, I talk in a softer, sad tone when I'm upset (rarely) with my bf. It's really weird... maybe I'm just more comfortable and impatient with my friends?

My voice almost can't even yell, it's almost impossible because it's just so soft-spoken. So I usually make sarcastic comments while I'm being extremely yelled at. But a few minutes into it, I can't help but try to yell something back!

when i'm mad, i don't deal with the problem right then and there. i usually retreat, and then talk about it when i'm ready or sometimes i don't talk about it at all. lol. i used yell a lot, but i don't have the energy anymore and it doesn't solve anything, at least in my situations it hasn't.

Chatondeneige: I am the same way, I cannot stand to be yelled at; I cry instantly. On the rare occassion (like twice) the person had said just enough to take me from crying to anger so I was able to yell back however it is rare. Ever since I was little I could not take being yelled at.

I want to yell however I keep myself in line. However my voice does get a little louder and the tone of my voice definitely changes. I dislike yelling though, unless the person is walking away from me, then I get p*ssed, lol.
