Dear Poll: Whose Approval Matters Most?

When you meet a new guy, it's common to want to show him off to your friends and family. While, of course, you want them to see how fabulous he is, oftentimes it's their stamp of approval that you're really after. Whenever I meet someone special, I introduce him to my friends first because if he doesn't pass their test, there's no way I'd introduce him to my parents! That's just me, but what about you? Who's approval matters most to you when introducing the new man in your life?

Ideally everyone has to like him or else someone is going to get hurt. I would like it if everyone could just get along.

I voted other because I want my mom's AND my dad's approval!

I agree with glowingmoon, pastel and lovely_1 --- it's great if your SO gets along well with your friends and family, but my approval is the only necessary approval. Frankly some of my girlfriends and my mother seem jealous when I am in a great relationship and spend a lot of time with my SO instead of them. I haven't ditched them and we're not on bad terms, I just don't see them as much now that I am HAPPILY married!

I think my approval first. I listen to what other shave to say, and take it into consideration, but I won't brek up with a guy or date a guy based just on opinions of others.

My "parents" haven't had any input in my life for a long time. And I wouldn't trust their opinions anyways. My closest friends, Grandmother, and sister's opinions are the only ones I listen to. My mom however got to meet my husband, and she thinks he is great. Even if she didn't she wouldn't know what "great" guys are like because my "dad" is an emotionally/physically abusive person. Yadda yadda yadda. 8)

My best friend. If she doesn't like him then I know it isn't going to last. She loves my boyfriend.

Best friends are easy, family not so much. Definitely family first.

My family but at the end of the day as long as I am happy and he's got my approval it's all good, especially since I am the one stuck with him ;)

As much as I would also want my father to like him, I would say I tend to seek my mother's approval most.

None but my own judgment, of course!

My dad, mom, and brother because they truly want the best for me. I was so happy that they ended loving my husband. My friends do not know me well enough and they have poor taste in men, anyway. Many of them are either single, in a troubled relationship, or divorced.

All I have to say is that if he doesn't mix well with my family it will never work. My family is big and tight... so if he can't roll with us there is no point. There have been outcasts by other siblings and it never works out in the end. Most people that we bring into the family never want to leave which can be just as hard when there is a break up.

My best friend. My mom isn't happy with anyone that I like - we are 2 very different people, but my friends are always supportive if I'm happy and the guy is a good guy. My dad was always the same way too, as long as I was happy that's all that matters.

I would love if everyone just supported my happiness, in everything & anything

After I got out of my first marriage which was very abusive. I learned my lesson that I need to take my Dad's opinions very seriously. He was in a profession for 20 years that required him to be able to read people and he's very good at that. He never liked my first husband. After that breakup any man I dated if Dad didn't like him, he was history. He loved my current hubby from the very start :-)

Mine. Although it's nice to have everybody else's approval, mine is what matters most, as I'm the one having the relationship with him, not them.

I would say my family's opinion matters most to me, but I would want my friends to like him too.
