Dear Poll: Are You More Like the Girl or the Guy?

When I asked if your significant other shows his emotion well, the results were pretty evenly split, although very extreme — the men were either completely closed off or very in touch with their feelings. Hearing stories of guys who are not ashamed to cry got me thinking about the roles we play in our relationships. Sometimes, we take on the stereotypical traits our gender dictates, but that's not always the case. So tell me, are you more of the girl or the guy in your relationship?

LOL. The other day my bf told me that the left half of my soul was a dude because I couldn't remember what we did on our 1st date.

Well, I wear makeup and I cry, but I'd say the girlyness ends there. I'm definitely the more assertive one and I end up "taking care" of situations that he'd prefer to just ignore and hope they go away - like politely informing our neighbor that no, they may not build a fence encroaching into our yard! And then I come home and bake him cookies while he pouts and tells me I'm mean. *eye roll*

The girl :)

The girl in the current relationship. With my ex, I was the guy...which I think was a big reason it didn't work for me.

my husband and I are both "the guy" hehe.

i don't appreciate the gendered language this poll uses. i am a female & i identify as a woman. my relationship doesn't acknowledge gender roles.

I would say I am a good mix! I am a romantic at times and I am always thinking of cute little things to do like leaving a little love note in my husbands car for him to get in the morning when heading to work etc. When it comes to date night I would much rather get some beers- play some pool or darts or see live music. I don't exactly like the whole romantic dinners that can be stiff and boring- I like to let loose! WOOOHHOOO! LOL!

i'm more like the guy emotionally. when i first started dating my guy we had a whole conversation about how I don't call him enough. or perhaps i'm just more secure in my emotions than some guys.

I've always been more like the guy. I'm super feminine, but when it comes to emotions I'm like "I told you I loved you last week; if that changes you'll be the first to know." :)

Tori927, me too! Hahah in all other ways I am a girly girl, but when it comes to relationships I tend to play the unattached, straightforward male role!

Def. more like the Guy: My bf gets more emotional, talks very openly (I tend to be uncomfortable talking about sensitive or anything that is bothering me - bad I know). I am def. emotionally distant at times and I don't do the huggy, cuddly thang and he loves and does that all the time - Opposites attract I guess.

Although I guess he is the girl in some ways because he makes me talk about what I am feeling rather than my usual holding it in and thinking about it later. it's diverse at least. We both are equal with the i love you's.

In my current relationship I am without a doubt the girl. I went through a phase where I cried everyday for a month, happy and sad. I always make us pancakes and I clean his room sometimes. When he was rearranging it the other day he did all the electronic things while I swept and rearranged furniture to be more aesthetically pleasing. He is also a care-taker type. If I cannot open something or lift something he is always there to help. Not saying I am weak but sometimes I don't have a bottle opener on me when I have a beer or can't lift a croquet bag.

I suppose I would say that I'm a little more like a guy than my husband. Like Leila07, I bottle up my emotions sometimes and say "I love you" less than he does. But overall it's pretty balanced.

I am half-and-half I would say. On some things I am very sensitive and emotional, but on others, I am definitely the guy. I hate cuddling with a passion, I don't like to talk about my feelings, and I fall asleep watching The Notebook (while my ex cried like a baby next to me!).

I'm with Leila and Miss Senorita. I never cry, not even in sad movies! But outside of relationships, I'm super-girly. I'm talking pink walls and lace! :-)

I am definitely always the girly one, I cannot stand when a guy is the "girlier" one. If I were in a relationship with that dynamic, I would be out of it pretty quickly.

I am definitely more like the stereotypical guy, starting with my commitment issues.

I'm surely the girl. :)

I freakin' WISH I could have your situation, Leila07. But alas, I am soooo the girl in my relationship. I'm extremely sensitive and intuitive, and which are qualities he sometimes lacks. I also have a tendency to cry out of frustration, which he definitely does not understand lol. While he is definitely caring and thoughtful, he often lacks the compassion that a more "girly" type guy may posses.

I'm the girl in my current relationship for the first time. My ex's were not so smart and it forced me into the typical male role. I tend to be one of the guys with my friends and have always gotten along with men better than women. My bf is a smart manly man and I respect and trust him so I have been able to finally settle into the more typical girl role in our relationship.

The guy I guess when it comes to 'emotional' dynamic. My hub is more sensitive than I thought LOL. Kinda like your guy, Leila07. He's the one who says 'I love you' all the time, forces me to talk about things when all I want is just no talking LOL. I kill bugs all the time (no need for hub to do it for me). I don't nag (hub is actually more of a nagger than I am). But in other aspects (cleaning, cooking, taking care of the kid etc) I usually do it, so I dunno, maybe more manly in some aspects while more 'girly' in another.

Haha. I am more like the guy. He calls me all the time, says I love you constantly, does more of the social scheduling, ect. He also forces me to talk things out when we are arguing about something, when all I really want to do is drop the topic or go in another room. We just like to joke that I am "somewhat dude-ish". This is the first relationship I've been in with that dynamic.

I do play the female role... However, I end up with men who are better cooks and bakers than I am (and this time, a guy who sews as well).
