Diesel's Be Stupid Ads

Diesel's New Ads: Just Stupid?

France and England have reignited their rivalry over an unexpected subject: Diesel's "Be Stupid" ads. The UK banned the ads because they encouraged "antisocial behavior" and were unsuitable for children. Across the channel in more permissive Cannes, the ads won the top prize at the International Advertising Festival. Now the company has released a new batch: one depicting a woman pleasuring herself with work tools and another encouraging you to sleep with your boss. They're definitely stupid, but that's the point. Diesel says the campaign is a rallying call to challenge conventional wisdom and the ordinary life. Unfortunately, trying to sell jeans with risqué ads and lots of skin seems pretty ordinary to me considering Calvin Klein's been shocking us for years. Have you seen the ads? What do you make of them?

I am with Lee in what she said. It does look like a dorm room.

Just eh. I definitely do not love the ad but that is due to me finding it boring. Funny, my first thought was not shock or such at the headline, it was "Why is she sleeping with her boss in what seems to be a crappy dorm room?"

It works. We're responding to their ad. We've notice it. And, by extension, their products. I don't like it particularly, but... Just sayin'

I actually smiled at the ad and thought it was funny, it's different!

Selling clothes with attractive models and crude advertisements? Whoah, slow down, way ahead of it's time. We're not ready.

Someone actually got paid to come up with this ad campaign? Pay me! I'll come up with something even more stupid-er.

If you can’t say anything nice about your product… It puts me off – why would I buy from someone who thinks I’m so trivial?
