A Do or a Don't: Going Into Detail

A Do or a Don't: Going Into Detail

When I’m being told one of my friend’s dating escapades, I like all the details. Maybe I’m just nosy, but I'd want to make an informed opinion if I’m asked for it. Likewise, I’m apt to walk my friends step-by-step through a situation I've been through. That’s me — I’m all about the details. But not all my friends share my enthusiasm for sharing the specifics.

Recently when I asked a friend to tell me all the juicy details about her date, she reproached me and said, “I want to keep some things to myself.” Immediately, I apologized, because I knew exactly what she meant — butt out. Are there things you’d rather just gloss over when dishing to your friends? Or when it comes to reliving your personal drama, are you a detail-oriented woman like myself?

I agree with everyone who said "depends on the friend." Unfortunately for me, I don't feel very comfortable opening up to my female friends. I have had some of the most judgmental comments come from my female friends.

Sharing details can come to bite you in the butt. I'll keep the juice to myself.

it depends really. it depends on the friend I'm talking to, the situation I'm discussing, the circumstances surrounding us. normally I like to try to tell every juicy detail but there are definitely times I'll...glaze over certain things.

It really depends on the friend. Usually I get the blow-by-blow from my best friends, but it always stops short of the sex details - I don't need to hear that!

Nope. Some matters are too special to share.

It depends on the friend. And even then there are some things that I gloss over now because this is my fiance and there are things that are meant to just stay between us two.

my boyfriend HATES it when I do. He says things between us should be just that. But but but... I LOVE spilling all the cute and romantic details ;) I've never been told to butt out of juicy stories! My friends love telling me every detail... they say my reaction is priceless and so worth telling me LOL

With my friends I definitely want to know the details and tell them all the details that they seem to want. Some people want more details than others but you can usually tell when they look at you.

Hey, if you're going to tell a juicy story, you better expect everyone's gonna want the gory details!

Sharing the details can be fun.........but I've noticed that the details become fewer and further in between when people are serious about who they're with. Then they're not so willing to share, which I find fascinating and completely respect.

Yeah it does depend on the friend, some of my friends would have that story all over the world before I made it back home, lol, it's ok I love them for other reasons, haha. And I do think some things are pretty personal and I wouldn't want my S.O. going around telling anyone certain things about me, so I return the favor.

i think that it depends on my audience and the story...i don't usually like to share a lot about myself but sometimes you need to go into more detail in order to give the full picture to someone. i definitely have a few friends who share WAY too much - but that's their thing - ya know? i can't judge.

I'm not one to tell girlfriends details... I'm the one they came to tell all of their problems. I had to put a stop to it, because it gets you all stressed out for nothing. If you tell your friend to leave an abusive guy, they get angry with you. Or not to date a guy're jealous. I hate female:female drama. I'm much happier now.

My close friends are like me, so I never have to have those awkward moments of TMI. I love it. Aside from them, I make sure to keep things light unless/until the other person is obviously a "juicy details" person like me.

I agree, depends on the friend!

It totally depends on the friend. Some friends there is no way I would go into any kind of detail about anything and others it is completely open and free!

depends on the friend. I share more with some and they share more with me..others not so much

I think when I was single and dating I was more likely to dish all the details, but in a committed relationship/being married now, I'm more likely to gloss over some things because they're private and I hold them sacred. Plus I know how I'd feel if my S.O. dished certain juicy details :-#
